My Dad got access to a wheat field that has had a lot of geese in it the last few mornings. We have never had much luck during the early season and I am hoping for a good shoot on the 1st. Is there a good chance these geese will move on before the 1st?

Being 2 weeks out, I'd say they will probably move on in that time frame, but keep an eye on it!! You never know.....

I wouldn't put too much faith into them still being there. With the rain yesterday and today, if the weeds havent started growing out of control yet, the weeds will probably be too high by then.
One way to refresh the field is to mow it a couple of days before the season.

The last two posts are dead on. I have seen geese land in some tall weeds. If you can find there roost you can see where they go.

What they are doing today isn't exactly what they will be doing on the 1st but don't count it out. If they are in the area anything is possible and it can change in a matter of hours in some cases. Keep your eyes on them and give it a go.

1 good thing is they will have confidence in landing in that field later on. Even if they are heading somewhere else,, if they fly near there and see your spread,, they will be easier to decoy......

10 point, I just checked and the birds have gone, better luck next time!! ;D Like stated before, find the roost, go out several mornings before season and watch where they are heading, hopefully still your field, if not, try and get permission where they are heading and pound them! Get yourself a good plat book for your county and you can track down the owners of whatever property they are heading to.

also be careful setting your dekes in a field where the geese are used to just flying into...
only use a couple not a whole army

With all the rain NW Indiana has received these last few days the geese have found new flooded areas to roost in. Near me the geese have for the past few weeks been staying on sandbars in the river, now the river is at flood stage and the geese are gone. They are roosting in fresh cut mint fields that have flooded because of the recent rains. Things will change from day to day these next few weeks as these fields dry out. If you can find one that will still have water on it on SEPT.1 you will probably find them there

I will always take more guns and decoys if you want to give them away. ;D Actually this field is not near me. It is over near my parents on the other side of the State so it is not in Lafayette. I don't have anything around here right now.

10point,
I talked to a farmer up by you today and he said he is gonna start picking corn in 2 weeks. If you can scout it out we could get in on an early goose hunt before season is out.

Who do you know that farms in Lafayette? And didn't you learn anything about the boat ramp post. Now every hunter in the tri-state area will be heading to Lafayette. There will be more decoy spreads then fast food joints.
