Woody, actually archery equipment can be very effective in problem areas where geese are not afraid of people. I had a long discussion about it with one guy who was very interested in it.In the Sept. season in populated areas geese have no fear. Many are juvies and have no clue what being hunted is.
Now, don't take this wrong.......but, Are you serious?
What is the difference between doing this and oiling an egg?
Seems to me that it would be easier just to walk up to them with a ninja sword and chop their head off?
I understand using archery eqipment takes skill, but my gosh if they have "no fear, and are not afraid of people" the skills needed to take one are the same skills needed to detroy an egg/nest? To me this isn't any different than shooting fish in a bucket.
Where is the "hunt" in this?
It sounds more like assembling a group of guys for a firing squad?
I think this is a black eye waiting to happen.
Sounds like just "killing" to me, which is exactly why folks are wissed about egg/nest destruction.
I'm confused.
MIG - with all due respect, everyone has their own definition of hunting. Juvies are stupid birds in Sept, whether they grow up in a subdivision or out on a preserve area. We already shoot a bunch of juvies in the Sept. season in field spreads. They are just flat stupid, which is just fine with us. So, a guy sneaking up with a bow to shoot a few juvies is not going to decimate the population, but it will help in harvest numbers. Is it any different than the guys that sneak over a bank and jump shoot geese with their 12 ga.'s? Not in my mind? Is it hunting? Not the way I hunt geese, but it is a legitimate form of hunting, so I don't equate it to destroying eggs.
If done right, archery equipment is an effective tool for a hunter.
