I wouldn't even waste my time if the only option I had was to ditch slip them. Where's the fun in that? I'd rather kill 10-20 over decoys than 70 while ditch slipping.

I go to Squaw Creek area every year. I have about 1000 wind socks and 200 shells. I use a 4 speaker system and a reed call. I know a guy there who is really good using his voice. It's a sight to see hundreds of geese work your decoys at the same time. We will be there the first week of March. I was there one year when the refuge was holding a over a millon snows. They are hard to decoy. Usally its the juvies and ross geese that get to close. But last year we shot more adult snows then anything else. We even had a pair of swans w/neck collars come over the blinds about 10' high. Always lots of speks around too, and they decoy well when you can't shoot them.

I prefer the ditch method. Its a bunch of hard work sometimes but you sure can lay out the snows when you get on'em. You think setting out a couple of dozen candas around here and not have the birds show up is no fun, try setting out 600-1,000 snows and not have them show up. If they do show up there extremely hard to decoy.

It don't take that long to set decoys when there is 4 to 6 of you. For me it's the hunt and seeing the birds work, but to each their own. I just know of to many stories where swans, speks, and other waterfowl were (oops) shot by the ditch method. Last year there was a group of five hunters that were doing this by us. They had one good day of 50 birds and 2 bands. But for the week total, we killed more, minus the bands.

Guys, I have never snuck them in a ditch but have heard stories. I have however hunted them over de' coys off the Mississippi and I can tell you it was a blast!! Watching them respond to those electronic callers is amazing. If you have never done it, you owe it to yourself to go at least once. One day we will read stories about how in the good old days we could hunt geese with unplugged guns, electronic callers, no limits and no license (in some states). The day is now, go get em boys!

I just put my time in from work. I will be hunting them for 10 days. I hope to have good south wind like I did last year.
