Is that a Mossberg in the pic? If its anything like the one I used to have, you have to hit two birds with the first shot because the gun screws up and there is no second shot. Right MIG? ;D
Nice job on the double.

I know about those follow ups with the Mossberg!!!!! Nice work John! You da man! You're gonna need to have some more of those doubles to make up for the misses from early season. Perhaps we'll knock some down tomorrow night!

What is it with the Mossberg's? My 500 won't cycle like it should either... It had that problem a few years ago and some JB Weld took care of it. The Weld left last year and I had no problems with it again until this year... I got a double many years ago with a .410 and some squirrels. Talk about a surprise. Good shooting!!

Got home at 4:40 the wife had everything laid out for me ready to go. 911...think the wife would have everything laid out for me ready to go if I told her I'd get home at 4:40? Of course I don't believe I could be set up by 4:48 since my drive is a bit longer. ;D Man if Travis could only shoot half as good he could save some shell money. I sure hope I can get out into the mud tomorrow.

A few years ago, a guy I know had to send his brand new 500 back to the factory for repair, but it still dropped shells out the bottom even after fixed, so he traded it off. I've never had any problems with my 500 which I bought brand new in 1991, but it was made on the east coast in 1990, heard the newer ones are made in Texas just across the border from Mexico and have poor quality. Can anyone validate or add anything to this?

We're getting off-topic. ;D
My 500 won't kick a new shell out of the magazine every time. A little JB Weld is what I used to fix it- put it on the sides of the piece (that I should know the name of!) that goes down when the bolt is cycled back. That allowed more contact with the magazine keepers and would then kick a new shell out.
I've never had a problem with it not holding shells. The only problems I've had with either of the 500's I've owned (had a 20 gauge a while back) was with it holding them *too* well. The 20 gauge wouldn't kick out a new shell if the gun was much above horizontal, IIRC. Traded that gun and some money for a 20 gauge 870 a few years ago.

Yea, a little off topic but very important info for any prospective 500 buyers out there. The guy I know traded his new 500 off on an 870.
I also own a 600 which I believe to be of much pre-1990 manufacture, seems even more solid than my 500.
JB Weld and gun in the same sentence just don't seem right, even though it seemingly worked for you.
Thanks for the info...If one person benefits from this off topic info, then it's worth it, IMO, because the 'net was created for sharing info. : )

Rest assured, I wouldn't use any JB on the barrel, receiver or bolt!! All the JB did was to add a little extra thickness to move the magazine keepers out a little more.
I suppose there could be worn out parts, but the gun has probably only had a couple thousand rounds through it... If that. I got it new as a birthday gift from Dad when I was around 14 or so, that was 14 years ago. The only serious shooting I've done with it was in shooting sports in 4-H and a couple of weeks at Scout camp.
