I couldn't begin to tell you. I know what a nice deer is and I really have no clue to number of inches. I have a vauge idea but that said I can't judge in the field only know what I would and wouldn't shoot on the given day. I readily admit my bar moves every day. Depending on other things going on for the day, how I feel, or if the mood strikes so I can't pencil down a number. It could even change from one hour to the next.

I hunt for a 160, but will take a 140....unless the rack is unusual..or he is fully mature..

Span asked a specific question and asked for specific numbers. So far, I'm the only one who has given him a number. I'm interested in this thread. If you don't want to throw out a number, why not take your quibbling to a different thread? Honestly to most hunters a "number" is not what makes a buck a trophy. just saying

Then don't answer the thread! That's what turns these things into arguments. He asked for numbers. Anyone who isn't into numbers should just move on to the next thread. That's all I'm saying. He said in his initial post that he understood a lot of folks aren't concerned with numbers. Some are, that's who would naturally (seemingly) be involved in this discussion.

Probably like most on here, I do hunt for a nice buck, but i'm not a true, die hard trophy hunter, but if I was I would say 160+ would be a trophy for Indiana.

Seriously. How did you guys turn this into an arguement. It was a simple question that went way off on a tangent.
Okay let me refrase a simple question:
For the guys that consider themselves a trophy hunter and are concerned with inches of antler on top of a deers head, what do you consider a trophy for Indiana. Not Iowa or Illinois or whatever state. Indiana deer. Inches of antler.

As for me I'd say 150 is a minimum but on an interesting rack that could change. It has to go on the wall if its getting shot. That said the deer I was hunting last year before i killed mine and hope to catch up to this year would not score squat in any scoring book. As a typical he would have to be in the 170+ range but he had a injury to his right rear and his left side was a mass of antlers. Right side was a perfect high tine 5 and left had at least nine scorable points. I would say he should still hit that 150 mark though.
Duff, you dont count. Does ears aren't scorable in b&c or pope and young.

I removed my answer because I'm not a trophy hunter, and never will be...........

Gross score or net?
Again its a simple question. Is their some reason why you choose not to answer the question but keep firing back arguments. If you don't want to answer the question don't. Wouldn't it be easier to come back with an answer that included your opinion of both net and gross if you so wanted.
i just don't get it. Why does everything have to turn into an reason to argue with some?
Voodoo. There was no reason to remove your answer. This post wasn't meant as a trophy hunter vs. meat hunter. You just hear the phrase " i'm a trophy hunter " thrown around alot and I was curious of guys that consider themselves a trophy hunter what their standards were. I have nothing against either side.

Everybody has different standards of trophy deer. Alot depends on the size of the deer they've killed in the past yrs of hunting, and their experience. If I've killed 5 150" in deer, next time a trophy to me might be 160 inch deer, if I've killed several 160 inch deer, then my definition of " trophy" might change to 170 inch...It's like askng a guy who makes the best Pick-up truck..or who was the best Rock band of all time...Stupid question..of course everyone is going to have their own opinion...We're ALL INDIVIDUALS...not ROBOTS...TO each his own.

![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) I'm just not getting it. I'm not asking here what a general term of Indiana trophy deer is. I wanted to know the guys that are trophy hunters what their minimum is. I know that different properties have different size deer. I know some hunters are happy killing does or in some guys eyes smaller bucks. Thats fine. I know that individuals are different. Lets try it this way. How many guys on here consider themselves a trophy hunter? If you answer yes then what is your mindset of what that deer should score for you to pull the trigger or release the arrow or bolt or pcr rould or slug or muzzle loader bullet or rock or whatever to kill that deer.

Yes, i am an unashamed trophy hunter. I quit killing yearling bucks 20+ years ago. In my area good 140 is a trophy for me although I've killed some less as the had interesting racks. The propert in in Illinois that number goes up to 150 and those numbers are gross. So my definition of trophy depends not just on me but the area I'm hunting..

An interesting racked. Buck I killed with my crossbow. 3 points witha common base. Not a 140 by along shot but a nice mature buck.. ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v474/Woowoo1/8b178ccd.jpg) ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v474/Woowoo1/2833b4a3.jpg)

For me a Buck must score around 140 or higher to be a trophy.
And on Public land I will not shoot a Buck unless it has an Antler Spread out to it's ears, either that or the Buck must appear to be mature before I shoot.
I know guys who Bow hunt at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area (LBL) and they kill 110 to 120 inch Bucks every Season. They simply let all the smaller Bucks walk, and wait to shoot a larger Buck.

By the way, the numbers I posted are for gross. I am MUCH more interested in gross, it gives a much truer visual indication of rack size.
