Thanks esshup, not sure on the age, my guess was 4 1/2, and that is "just a guess" I noticed the white on his leg also, but seen no other sign, but he was along way off when I took the picture. I know what you're saying on your pond, mine is also the lowest i've ever seen it, but it is approx. 20ft deep in one area when full, so not too concerned about it YET. I hope we all get the rain, I'll even be happy with a couple inches, LOL! May be be late for most of the corn but may save some trees and green up the food plots a little. Good luck too all!!!!

There is a field a little outside of Bloomfield that I noticed was cut the other day. The odd thing was that the farmer left a couple strips of corn standing.

He had crop insurance on that field. Left a strip so the insurance company can determine what if any the yield would have been.

Was told by an old timer last week that the most a farmer can get on lost crop is $750,000. Is that true?? Also, he mentioned that the insurance companies won't pay a dime if the farmer uses the corn for silage?
Any truth to that crap?

As far as i know if they cut for silage, no they wont pay.but i'm not for sure. I haven't seen around here yet, but some parts in southern IL and parts of IN they are bushhog'n corn, insurance is telling them go ahead knock it down, its a loss and will be nothing but a fire hazard come fall if it stays this dry. Can you imagine, putting out all the time and money, to end up out there just mowing it down to nothing. Its going to get bad i think, We use alot of wheat straw in our business, and its been getting bit pricey, the dairy farms have been buying it up like crazy becuase they hay numbers are going to be so low. cows gotta eat something!!

The wheat crop in Ky. was better than normal years, so wheat straw should be plentiful.
BTW-- the latest Indiana farm report lists 19% of the corn crop as poor. Some states are worse than that. Some better

I stopped by to chat with some local friends/farmers south of Rockville today and took a look at their corn fields. Simply Disastrous! He shucked a quick ear:
