I started with with my sniper weapon years ago just for the training aspect of it. It is a .308 shooting a 168gr BTHP bullet. That worked very well due to what I was wanting to get accomplished - estimating range, wind, bullet drop, etc....... But as the years went by I started used my Colt AR-15 - .223 Again this worked well but I still wanted a better, flatter shooting round that was not as affected by the wind like the .223 55gr bullet can be. This is the round we shoot with our department. A few years ago I bought a Browning A-bolt in the .243WSSM. I like the flat shooting trajectory and it shoots decent in the wind. Again, I hunt in all terrains but it seems like I have taken more coyotes out in the open fields than anywhere else, that is why I like the .243WSSM. The cost of ammunition is going up but I only shoot 10-15 rounds per year.

Haven't hunted or killed any groundhogs in several years. I use to hunt them all the time during my High School years back in the '60's when there were more groundhog around. Used several rifles like: .17 Ackley Bee, 17/.223, .17 Rem., .22 Hornet, .218 Bee, .222 Rem., .25-20 Win. (Marlin Model 1894 rifle), .243 Win., .257 Rob. IMP., .270 Win., .308 Win. Shot several Coyotes with my .270 & .308 though.

I take my mossberg 702 plinkster with a 3-7x bushnell scope on it & aim for the ear. I will also bring my Remington 870 12 gauge with me.

CZ 527 in 204 Ruger. I chose the CZ because of it's reputation for accuracy and the 204 for a couple reasons. Number one was that tiny 32gr. bullet not going to go for miles and end up some place where it's not supposed to be and the other is 4000+ fps.

Ya the 204 is good you just better have no wind and be shooting where hthere is not 1 blade of grass that can explode the bullett.

Good luck trying to buy any 233 ammo right now. The shelves at Gander Mountain in Evansville are bare of this ammo. Everyone is out buying all the 223 ammo they can get. Something to think about right now. I use the 222 Remington Rifle and it works good for predators. It's very accruate with the factory loads at 100 yards. Sub MOA. Lets see your varmint guns!!! Give me your reason for using the gun you use and the bullets you use. I am looking at getting a new gun this year and want some idea's... Also what would be good ammo? I've been looking at the .223's and 5.56 which ammo is better? I buy a lot of my ammo from the Natchezss site and being new to these rounds was wondering which is best grain/FMJ/Hallow Point??? All you gurus out there give me what you got... BB

My opinion the good 'ole .222 Remingtion is a much better cartridge than the .223 Rem. The .222 has a longer neck which makes it easier to reload and is more accurate. Powerwise both .222 and .223 are the same class.
