Yesterday I received my 06-07 federal duck stamps and I also got my HIP number. The equipment is ready and has been since 2 weeks after the season closed all I need is a fresh supply of ammo and I am ready to go. I'm hearing rumor we may have a late goose season in certain parts of the state. Also the dove numbers are above last years count at this time CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!

Yea I am getting a little pumped up for the season already too. Just reading the new DU magazine last night got me fired up.
Bring on the cold weather and the clouds of ducks/geese.

Since I collect them I found it easier to order mine by phone directly from the postal service. 2 stamps mailed to me with a $1.00 service fee beats driving around looking for the lick type that I collect. Has anyone heard any rumors regarding a poss. late goose season and if so what counties would be affected?

I copied this from the Refuge.
I think I've talked to you about this already, but just in case:
The Feb season, if approved, will occur in 30 counties around Indy, Terre Haute, South Bend, and Ft. Wayne. I am asking for a 5 bird limit, but don't know whether that will be approved; I'll take two if that's all I can get.
This will be experimental for three years, meaning we will have to measure harvested geese to ensure that most are giants. We will have folks at FWAs to measure birds. If the three year experiment proves successful (that we're killing > 90% giants), I may ask for statewide at that time. But initially it will be in just those 30 counties for at least three years.
Again, I am hopeful but not certain. This has to get through several Mississippi Flyway committees as well as the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

Thanks 410 for the info on the late goose season. I drove 83 miles to bend their ear this spring at the meeting at Willow Slough. I do all my hunting in Laporte co. and we have a large build up of geese in late December and early January. By the way I purchased a Westernfield 410 pump like I had when I was a kid. My mother worked at a Monkey Wards so all of my hunting stuff came from there. I spent about as much for steel loads as the gun costs. Looking for the right day this fall to try it out on doves and waterfowl.

If they have a February season and go with selected counties I'm hoping I have some property in one of those counties so I can hunt. I have the Browning White Lighting O/U and this one only gets to see the dove fields and skeet range.

I am really hoping for a Feb. season. I have a couple fields and a section of water that are absolutely prime. These 2 bird limits are just hard, hunting with myself and 1 or 2 other people, we spend most of our time at breakfast and setting up. Last year we quit shooting at flocks and just worked singles and doubles in an effort to increase our time.

I have seen a TON of doves down here already. They are swarming the cut wheat fields for waste grain after the farmers get done drilling beans.
