I am new to the site and had a quick question for you guys. I currently live in Ohio and I am a huge waterfowl hunter. I will be moving to Muncie soon and wanted to now if there is any good waterfowl hunting close to that area. I appreciate any help you can give me. It is going to kill me to be 6 hours from all my hotspots so I am hoping to find some new areas.
Thanks Lee

Prairie Creek Reservoir is your closest body of water.....however I don't think you can hunt on it. (Correct me if I'm wrong fellas). HOWEVER, I know there are large amounts of waterfowl that use it, so you may need to hit some farmers up in that area to hunt the surrounding fields. White River also runs through Delaware County and downtown Muncie, you can hunt the river from a boat if you have a jon boat or something small that can make it through the shallow areas. Other than that, you will need to travel an hour or so for public waters, which would be Mississinewa Res., or Salamonie Res.. There's good to great waterfowl action all over Indiana, it's just a matter of getting permission to hunt....or take your luck on the public waterways. I've never felt that there are "crowds" of hunters on the Northern public waters....so you have a decent chance at a good day.

Hit or miss, not many "great" areas, but some can be pretty dang good. If you are just wanting water hunting then you will have to find some pond owners or occasional flooded fields or the resiviors up north. You can not hunt on Prarie Creek, or at least not long, the CO might catch up to you. Keep your eyes peeled and you will find the right areas then you can find a willing landowner in the area.

I was born and rasied in Muncie( BEARCAT 71) and you are correct you CAN NOT hunt on PC. What myself and a friend did several years ago was get permition to hunt the farm land in the back area of Bird bay( the area way behind the bait house) This land did belong to the Reeder brothers and they lived on st.35 about 5 miles south of PC. We would pass shoot ducks and geese and has some mighty fine hunting for a few years, also use to trap the same area. There are houses build back in some of this area now so I would guess it might be real hard to get permition. Ask Ron Bontom if he might know someone in that area would would allow you a place to hunt. He is a great guy and liked by a lot of folks. He runs PC( Park Dept.) Charlie Smith
