Seems my barrel is bent. It is 15 years old and has shot an awful lot of waterfowl loads along with skeet, rabbit, a few deer..... I did miss more than my fair share towards the end of the season and was curious as to why. A buddy and I gave it a real looking over after a rabbit hunt... missed a couple rabbits I swore i shoulda hit..... Anyone got a suggestion as to another REmmington barrel or hasting? Should I just sell the gun at a pawn shop and go buy a new one? CAn anyone explain to my wife why I should go get a Benelli, Browning Or Winchester Super Ex 3.5 instead of another Rem 870 while I hide in the garage?

Bent barrels are a real drag, but a great reason to get a new gun!!!!! Too bad all the guns I pick up seem to have bent barrels from the get go!

Use the excuse that you HAVE to get a new gun or else it could explode due to the barrel's integrity being compromised...... If she REALLY LOVES YOU, she'll drive you to the gun shop herself!

Tell her about the NEW law from IDNR that states " It shall be unlawful for any person(s) to hunt with a bent shotgun barrel. This offense is punishable by taking all spouses credit cards and destroying them." That oughtta do it!

I found a bulge on dad's 870 last season. he bought the gun when he was a kid. It was at the very end of the barrel and I think I'm going to get it cut and tubed, and get another barrel for it. I've heard of a guy in the columbus/nashville area that is the best and the cheapest when it comes to this type of thing, I'll keep you guys posted. As far as the new barrel, I'm going to keep my eye out for a used barrel from about the same time period as this one was manufactured.

Take your barrel to a GOOD gunsmith. They should be able to fix it. I know Verne Trester used to do this work. You need to have Joe at 500 Guns on West 16th Street in Indianapolis put you in touch with him.

From what I understand, a bent barrel that is straightened will end up bent again when it heats up from being fired. Can a gunsmith heat and straighten a barrel for less than 180 dollars? A new barrel on the REmingtion sight for a REm 870 express is MSRP for 179. Order one through Walmart or the likes.... it should be less I presume.

For $150-200 I would look for a used or even new gun. Then when you find a smoken deal on a spare barrel you got 2 guns. I just bought a brand new MP153 for $300, it's the 3.5" autoloader Remington is importing under Spartan Gun Works SPR453. So far so good but I still have olny put around 50-75 rounds through it so jury is still out on a solid recomendation.

The Remington/Spartan 3.5" autoloader should be a good gun. My brother bought one with the Baikal name on it , and loves it!
