Can't say as I ever remember seeing quail while I lived (grew up) in Tippecanoe county... We moved here to Putnam 5 years ago and I started seeing them from time to time on my drive home, usually just one or two at a time.
However, the other day I was talking to my sister on my cell while driving home and she couldn't figure out what I was yelling about when I started saying, "WOW" over and over again... There had to be 20+ birds in the covey that flushed as I rounded a corner. Something I had definately *never* seen before in my 28 years!

Parke, Vermillion seems to hold a decent population. I flushed several coveys last fall deer hunting. Hear them quite a bit too. Probably not like they were in your guys' days, but not bad from my point of view.
Before I left Madison County I was hearing them pretty regularly over there too.
Lack of habitat and increased chemicals I would agree with that.
