You south zone guys have been kind of quite lately that either means your having good hunting or your about to list your waterfowl stuff for sale. Which one?
Are there any birds down there?

This being my 2nd full year of hunting, it better than last year. Last year was a drought. The rivers never came out of their banks and I personally didn't see many birds. This year, the rivers have been way out of their banks all season, giving the birds more area feed. I have seen a good number of birds, just not had a lot to decoy ( still need to fine tune my spread). Yesterday, I would say, I saw several groups of birds, well over 300-400 drop into an area that I'm not able to hunt, and only shot 1 bird for the day. I believe, the last few days of the season will be good, only because the river is back down, and now I can hunt some of the water holes. I will be out every day next week to knock some down.

total opposite for me. Covered in birds last year but I'm more of a goose hunter than duck. Have not had a field hunt at all this year...that's BAD. Some factors other than lack of birds but that's the main problem.

As far as any kind of major migration goes, this season sucked! That being said, I was one of the lucky ones who had some spots to hunt where the few birds we had seemed to concentrate. We had a number of days with limits on ducks and a good variety. The big canadas on the other hand have been nonexistent shot 3 so far. Had lots and lots of cacklers and specks (very odd) but all they ever did was fly around all day a mile high. All in all not bad considering.

went out today, had about 1000 sitting on this flooded field and my buddy had permission to hunt it. we busted them up this morning, and when shooting time came around, they all landed out in the middle, really was awesome seeing all those ducks in one little area. never fired a shot, because competing with live ducks is too hard !

and when shooting time came around, they all landed out in the middle That was the biggest hurdle for us this year, educated birds.

Got word some of the fields we hunt are getting some use...still time for those of us who like goose hunting! Bring on the overcast days and maybe some frozen fields would be nice but I'll take the slop right now as long as there are birds to chase.

Went out today and set up in open water. Last Friday, they were dropping into this area by the hundreds midday. So my brother and I decided to go see what we could knock down today. On our way out we busted 1000-1500 birds off the water. Once we got set up and settled in, the birds started to come back. They did not like our set up so we made changes and still no luck. They were just dropping in on other parts of the water. At about 1:30- 2:00 the cold front came in and brought cloudy skies and literally thousands of birds. At one point, I would bet we had anywhere from 5-7k birds on the water. It was an Awesome sight. Unfortunately we never had any close enough to shoot. Can't wait to get back out tomorrow. We are going to set up on a treeline and see if we can't do a little better. They just did not like the boat out in the middle of water I guess.

Set up on the river this morning due to the lake being iced up. Nothing! Got home and wouldnt u know it hundreds of geese setting all over on the ice. Some were less than 25 yds behing my duck boat still on the lift. Started glassing and counted 7 leg bands. With the warm up we are going to be getting the next few days maybe I'll get a couple on the 14th.

We had a flock of about 70 geese come in right at about 4. First decent group of geese I have seen this season.

Season has been less than encouraging for my group...we've seen a lot of local birds but can't get them to come to the fields to feed. They just fly back and forth to ponds/lakes we can't get access to hunt. Earlier in season we ran across a few ducks but nothing exceptional. I'm ready for a big freeze! That way I can hunt one more time while the ponds are all getting good and frozen then it'll be time to pull some crappie thru the ice fraid it won't happen this year though

Found a few finally in Putnam. Hmmm, 6th largest county in geographic terms in the State of Indiana.... Guess that's vague enough. ;D ;D ;D
