Neighbor to the main property I hunt came by to tell me and my son that there was a big black cat size of a St. Bernard seen by several farmers shelling corn that morning ( saturday 11/12) seen just 500 yards west of me
Time to be watching over the shoulder on those dark walks in and out of the woods
anyone else in Miami county hear about this cat ?
My friend close by there has a game pic of it and someone else has a clear picture of it ( haven't seen it so can't say positive)

is that the trail cam or the cell phone pic? I heard about this tonight as well. Several years ago up there there was rumor of a cougar loose also. Even had a pig farmer blame some live stock killing on it. I used to have the new paper clipping.
head not quite as high as the second strand of that 4 strand fence...
here kitty kitty kitty!

Making his way west from Ohio. He ate that monkey and that kept him going for a while but he must be getting hungry by now.

how far is it typically between fence posts? 8' ? Kitty is dead centered with the post in the picture but another post is not visible. Im not sure what that has to do with anything but its something that crossed my feeble mind

Nope not legal to shoot unless being stalked or attacked. One of my buddies has trail cam pics of a bobcat, but it looks bigger just west of Vevay.

I'd guess a stray house cat like these pictures ALWAYS turn out to be. Either the view of the body is obstructed, there's nothing of a known size in the picture to reference or it's an angle where you can't get a good look at it.
I know of no confirmed cases that involved a black cat being anything other than a loose house cat. Not sure of which species of wild felines that would even survive in indiana that was black and you would think it would be confirmed in other states before it got here.
Cougars in Indiana? Yes. Wild black cats big enough to take down a deer, human or anything bigger than a rabbit? Highly doubtfull.

Well the neighbor is a good guy, says the farmer that saw the cat is a good guy and was seen by others, said it was huge , size of a st. bernard.
Not far from Macy
I personally haven't seen any tracks , did see a bobcat at this farm 3 years ago, but a bobcat could not be mistaken for a st. benard size.
Just seeing if anyone else has heard anything

and if it walks by me its getting shot, I would never forgive myself if I let it walk and it killed or hurt someone.
Its not a native species so why is it illegal to kill ?

there were stories of one near Derby in Perry County 20 years ago when I started hunting there, reputable accounts from a guy saw it in a tree

N. American Black Panther= Genetically impossible myth!
South/ Central American Black Jaguar = yes African Black Leopard= yes but N. American cougar/ Mt. Lion = No Way They lack the gene to produce the melanististic color phase. Not one recorded case of one in human history. No carcass, not one ever killed, not one ever reliably photographed...EVER! But, everybody has an uncle Jethro or cousin Cletus who swears they've seen one! As stated above these photos always turn out to be housecats photo'd in a way that gives no scale. Cat morphology is all pretty similar, so it is easy to pass a photo of a small cat off as a picture of a large cat if there is no reference of scale or if the photo is of poor quality.
