Could someone please tell me how to evaulate if the .450 Bushmaster cartridge will be a legal deer hunting cartridge in Indiana? I know there is a cartridge length, bullet weight, etc. requirement but nothing explicitly says "...a .450 Bushmaster is legal." Thanks for any links or help.

wiki shows the Bushmaster case length as 1.7" which would make it illegal under the current rules.
Possibility of changing the rule from 1.625" to 1.8" .... if that happens it would be legal.

Trim a hair off the cases and it's then legal.

Any cartridge that has a maximum 1.625 over all case length and a bullet diameter minimum of .357 is legal right now. If the new law passes the case length maximum will be 1.800.
As stated right now the 450 isn't legal. Most of the guys now who are using the AR platform are using the .458 SOCOM. h.h.

Trim a hair off the cases and it's then legal. That won't work- it headspaces on the case mouth, not the rim. It has to have a rebated rim to work in the AR platform.

Thank you guyz! Hopefully the new rule will pass and this will become legal. If not, no biggie.

I have .45 LC, .450 Busmaster, .44 Rem Magnum, .41 Rem Magnum, .50 Beowulf, .460 S&W, and .454 Casull Magnums too. I just wanted to try something different but was not sure if it was a deer hunting legal cartridge. You are spot on with regards to reloading (I do). .458 SOCOM is outrageously priced for ammunition. I will not spring for that one until the price drops substantially.
