I plant 10 - 12 food or bait plots a year so it works for me. Plant what you want in yours and I'll do the same but when someone asks a specific question please just try and answer what they ask. h.h. So you "Bait" your game, then. I am surprised, as I don't think baiting game animals is very sporting at all. I for one don't have to rely on "baiting" to bag my Game, never have or never will, and I've been quite successful. DRS... Get a life dude! I really dont care what you think of how I hunt or what you think is sporting! Planting food plots or bait plots is legal in Indiana, which you arent even a resident of, so again who cares what you think! Now get back on topic of the original question or I'll remove your post. h.h.

Hornharvester, Why did you remove my last post? Like I said, Everyone here has a RIGHT to their opinion, and that was what I was doing. The member who started this thread "bonechaser" was asking a valid question and I was only giving him some prudent advise, based on my knowledge & experience. I think it was rude of you to remove my last post. I must have hit a nerve or something. He asked about sunflowers. Not what you would plant.

Ok guy's I am gonna opt out of the sunflower's. Like I said the majority of our plot's will be replanted in imperial whitetail clover. (Roughly 4 acre's) So yes HH i am basically looking for a high protein food source for June and July that I can plant in the other 2 acre's and replant them to turnip's in August this fall for hunting plot's. Very little field crops in our area so soybean's will draw alot of attention. Gonna try to drill in 2 acre's bean's to see how they do. Thanks for the info. will ley you know how it work's.

Boonechaser, Another plant to look at is Lab Lab. I planted some last year and the deer browsed it pretty good. First frost killed it. I'm putting in soy beans when the ground dries up, then in August I'm mowing them off and planting my turnips, then in late Sept I'm planting winter wheat around the outside about the wide of my disc. Ive done this in the past and it works good. Here a picture from a couple years ago. h.h. Attachments:

I use a two row corn planter but you could broadcast them too since you are not going to harvest them. Broadcasting isn't as good but will work. If you broadcast them use a disc to cover them. Good luck, h.h.

Ask for black Larado Soy beans, they are for forage more than a crop and very easy to grow. Unless your wanting to plant a perennial patch of clover or clover mix, then you might want to plant round-up ready beans and spray to kill the weeds before you seed the clovers.

Just got done putting down 2 ton's lime and a ton of pot ash on plot's. Also sprayed roundup on clover plot's we are redoing. I really enjoy the process but man that was alot of work.LOL. Hope to get thing's planted next weekend. Want to give the roundup a week to kill everything before i till up. Gonna try a new product on a couple small plot's (1/4 acre) that soil is pretty poor. Whitetail institute EXTREME. Supposed to work on lowere ph soil's. I think PH was around 5.6 on plot's. Anybody used this product?? and how did it do?
