I just might sell mine to fund an AR or M1A. I'm sure I could get her shooting good I'm just starting to loose interest. I'd let a known good shooter try it out to see what they could do with it. If they get the same results, you've eliminated yourself as the problem. if that's the the best the gun will do, I'd contact Ruger and see what their response is. My guess is they'll make it right.

I put mine in layaway in Connersville. Got a great deal on the price. From what I have read they like hot loads. I am planning on using 240 xtps and using either 2400 0r H110 with at least 23 grains of powder. I will probably have to try some of the 225 gr lever evolution factory loads just to see if they work as good as I hear. WW-296 or H110 is the best powder for reloading the .44 Magnum. I can think of 4-5 more powders that are just as good. Powder depends on what a bullet is made of and how much it weighs. h.h.

"hh" I've used several powders in my Ruger M-77/44 including 2400 & IMR-4227. I've found that H110 to be the best powder or WW-296 in my Ruger using 240 gr. Hornady XTP bullets. I receive 1.5" 5-shot groups @ 75 yards, sometimes smaller groups. There are some powders that can be used but they don't deliver the best accuracy or velocity for the .44 Magnum.

Here's the results of sighting in my new 77/44 over at MCF&G this afternoon. It seems to like the Lever Revolution ammo. The big hole just above the red oval are my last 6 shots. It's a keeper! ;D

No, I guess I should have stated it was only 25 yards. I didn't have alot of ammo, and wanted to get it "close". As you can see the scope was WAY off to start with. I'll move out to 50 yards and see if/how far the groups open up. Where I hunt the most, 50-80 yard shots are the norm. I have read where some 77/44 owners can't get the rifle to group at all, so I guess "so far so good"!

75 yds is a good zero for the .44 mag cartridge.

Firehawk1, decent group. I hope to have mine out of layaway in a few weeks. Maybe I will have simular results. I spent Saturday making up some loads and I cant wait to try it out.

Someone here tell me if I'm wrong but, a pistol cartridge is loaded with powder that burns quick simply because a pistol has (usually) a short barrel. So isn't the powder burned way before the bullet reaches the end of a rifle barrel? Can the .44 mag be loaded using a rifle powder, and would you gain anything as far as velocity/energy?
OR, is it apparent I have NO idea what I'm talking about? ;D

Cast capacity is only so big so to increase speed you need to have more fuel to build pressures slower in a longer burn. The capicity of the case limits how much powder. From my Speer loading manual 44 mag rifle powders for a 240 grain bullet; H110 Lil' gun W296 2400 Vit V N110 IMR4227 AA#9 Ramshot Enforcer AA#7 HS-7 H. Universal
