Are guys so lazy and obsessed by antlers that they will claim someone elses buck? That's crazy. No, that's pathetic. I couldn't imagine using my tag on a buck someone else shot. These are probably the same guys that have the whopper deer stories that you can tell are made up after 5 seconds.
To me, there is more than just tagging a buck. Hunting to me is the hours sitting in a stand or blind, trimming trails all summer, looking for sheds, outsmarting a mature buck, and putting a clean, quick kill shot on him. That's what deer hunting is about, not just tagging the first set of antlers that you come across.
Sorry for your loss. Hopefully you can connect on a larger buck.

he found it , he put the tag on it--PERFECTLY legal according to IN law
This kind of thing happens all the time on State Park hunts
I drop them in their tracks, so no tracking job needed

This guy is getting exactly what he deserves, a public humiliation on a site where most understand who the deer belongs to.

NEITHER does the fact that "this kind of thing happens all the time on State park hunts" - pretty SAD actually, and even MORE SO that ANYONE would think that it is acceptable!

he found it , he put the tag on it--PERFECTLY legal according to IN law Is it really legal? I don't doubt it in Indiana, but the hunting guide (I know it's just a summary) says that... "Immediately upon killing a deer, the hunter must complete a tag on paper that states the hunter’s name, address, sex of the deer, license number (if applicable) of the person who took the deer...It sounds like a grey area that would probably be more expensive to fight than the deer would be worth. I know one time a CO told me that if an adjoining landowner didn't let me go get a deer to call him and he would require that the landowner put a tag on it, he's no longer a CO, so who knows.

As sad and pathetic as this story is, along with being sorry for your loss on this. I would HOPE that this guy in the picture truly thought that he had killed this buck ! If he was hunting and saw this buck fall near him w/o even taking a shot on the buck and tagged it as his own would be ridiclous ! Im not saying at all that it didnt happen that way but as a ethical hunter i would atleast like to think that this guy wasnt that stupid and heartless to just see the buck die and tag it !!!!
In either way if the guy thought he shot and killed this buck or he found it and tagged it its a tragedy all the same. I could never tag another mans deer like said before hunting to me is more than just "taggin the first set of antlers" to me its about puttin in all the time and effort then having it pay off in the end is more than a set of antlers to me anyday !
I guess I would still like to think that this douchebag atleast shot this deer or thought it was the deer he shot instead of just taggin it becuz he walked up on it ! But like I said its still not right either way and I hope that Karma does visit him soon and I hope that the guy postin this has a visit from Karma as well so he can successful tag his next buck w/o any stupidity happen in the process !
Good luck to you ! ~ INDeerhunter ~

Yep that sucks better luck next time. I can't imagine wanting someone else's deer but there's all kinds out there. It's just a deer, you'll get another shot at a bigger one. Some times it all works out that way.
Good job on posting his pic, someone will know who it is.

I had it happen to me once in LBL. Somewhere in Tennessee a 'bowhunter" has a fallow buck head over his fireplace that he did not earn..

I lost an archery doe in Kingsbury that way. Confronted the guy and he admitted he didn't kill it. Already had it tagged and I wasn't ready to quit hunting so he got the deer.

Wow I can't imagine keeping something that's not mine.........That meat would taste bitter to me! Not everyone walking in the woods understands what being a hunter really is. Many lack the skill and knowledge to take a wild animal. Any of us who have hunted public land has seen it all.

Sorry for your loss. I have just been hunting for about 10 years. I got in to the sport because I love nature and enjoy the rewards and the people you meet. But stories like this really make you mad. Their is no way I could ever do something like that. I would be more willing to help you recover your trophy. I hope this douchebag is not at Potato Creek on the 29th and 30th.
