so i got down from the stand to get a sandwich and while drivving home i spot a doe bedded in a corn field, so i backed up and seen anice ten and another buck right by her. i throw camo on and grab bow and rangefinder. Well lond story short i sneak to within 60, when the ten hears something and starts walking to me. I knock an arrow and get ready. Well he come to within 40 yards and i was at full draw. The thoughts passed threw my head it was probably a 130 calss ten point, Well i didn't shoot because he was facing me with head up. He ran into the woods i am hunting, SHould i have shoot i am extremely comfortable with my bow and very accurate. What would you guys have done just need a little reassurance.

No brainer, you made a good ethical decision. Keep hunting hard he will be back. If not, this time of the year who knows what will walk by. We seen a main frame 12ptr in the middle of the field today....at 11am possible legit booner.

Hard to say since I wasn't there...I've passed many many shot opportunities over the years because at the time it didn't feel right. In hindsight, some of them I maybe coud have been successful in taking but I've never regretted passing on the shots. Under the circumstances you gave I think you did the right thing. Feel better? Now get back out there after him!

Good job, if ever in doubt you should not shoot. Probably been a different story if the buck was only 15 yards away.

I'd say technically you used a moter vehicle in pursuit of game, and were, by the LETTER of the law, a law breaker.
That said... not ALL CO's would toast you for that... but SOME would.

U did the right thing... No matter how good of a Shot a person is, thats not a ethical shot. Jabba... How did he use a Motor Vehicle to pursue Game? Whats the diffence of you driving to your woods and you see a Buck standing in a corn feild, you park the Vehicle and get out. But I would be more worried did he have permission to hunt the feild.

Jabba I drive to where I hunt I must be breaking the law , he stooped and exited the vehicle thats all that is required that and leaving the roadway

It is illegal to use a motor vehicle to take a deer. That means you can't shoot from in or on one, moving, running, or rusted out and sitting junked in the woods.
It doesn't mean you can't drive by a field you have permission to hunt, see a deer, park and stalk it. That is totally legal.

Now that's odd, our Master Conservation Officer has told several of our Hunter Ed classes that seeing a deer in a field while driving down a road, pulling off, exiting the vehicle, taking a shot is illegal, and he would ticket you. Hmmmmm? And I asked him, just for giggles, if I could sit in an abandoned vehicle, or maybe on a combine that's just sitting for the weekend, and he said that would not get me a ticket. Hmmmmmm? Might need some clarification to save some one from losing their truck!

I was told, by a CO, that is you drive, see a deer, park and stalk, that it's illegal. Not that I agree or disagree, just passing on what I was told, trying to help a guy NOT get a ticket.
Try driving past a mechanical deer decoy, parking, then stalking up on it and shooting it.
I'll bet you lunch you get in trouble.
I stopped to look at a mechanical deer last year... it was terrible. I clapped my hands at it. Whistled at it. Laughed like a madman. I KNEW it was a decoy from the start. Man...
Personally I don't like the decoy deal. but it is what it is.

WOW! No way I would think his actions would be considered illegal! That is nuts if a CO would actually ticket someone because they say the deer from a vehicle and started to stalk well away from the vehicle and kill the beast with legal means during legal hours. INSANITY! This only increases my suspision of certain CO's abusing power due to the hunger for recognition from bloated egos.

I cant possibly see how it would be illegal to see a deer, park, get out and go after it IF you have permission or own the land it is on?
Isnt that what we all do when we park at our hunting area and go in to hunt for the day other than the seeing the deer first... some times. I have many many many times seen deer as I am driving in on the land I hunt, park and walk on in to hunt.
I think the key here is having permission on the land the situation it takes place on.
