I have a feeling the new rules proposal isn't going to be much better than the first one. I did a lot of research and talked to many people in the DNR and came to the conclusion the rule changes proposed by the DNR is all about making Indiana into a trophy state and has zero to do with doe reduction. Being known as a trophy state will bring in many benefits down the road for the DNR especially when they need to justify the raising of deer licenses.
If they don't get their way this time around they will the next set of rule changes....... h.h.
PS. Two different in the know DNR employees told me over a year ago they were informed the higher up's in the DNR were going to make new rules to move Indiana into a more trophy minded state.

Here now....I'm really happy to be a 'boone hunter' and don't like the rule proposals or getting screwed by anyone.
HH-I'm sure your correct about the real purpose of the rule changes, it's rather obvious and follows the agendas of most of the stakeholders. I'm not sure how it's going to benefit the DNR down the road though??? They are in a hole as license fees go with a lot of hunters having LTL. Sure they will raise license fees and at least one of the stakeholders is already working it up. Every time they raise fees, a certain precentage of the hunting public will throw in the towel, so the end result is about the same amount of money. Now if the rescin the LTL and make those folks pony up then it could add up. That would be along the lines of what Tenring is asking for.

The LTL holders will never stand for a recension and there really are not that many LTL holders and there are fewer that hunt every year. Second Landowners ,LTL holders supposedly are the big hammers in the antlerless take so it makes no sense to take away what seems to be a top tool for their end game now does it ? Also those who do not have a LTL either was too young or simply did not get one by their choice so the whining about it by those who could of gets zero ear from me and likely the DNR as well. Its called life ain't fair and they had their chance.

I have no idea how many lifetime licenses there are out there but judging by my number {it's in the 12000's} and the fact they only had it for a year or two after I squeaked in and got mine it's somewhere in the 15-20000 range maybe. Now no doubt a few of those don't hunt anymore or maybe never even deer hunted to begin with so maybe 15000 lifetime licensed deer hunters? Every year that number will decrease by a very small percentage. In any case rescinding the lifetime licenses will only help if those hunters decide to hunt which undoubtedly if they rescind the license some of will just say screw you.
I don't mind them managing the herd for trophy deer I just don't see the need to take 1/2 of the opportunity away to do it. Makes no sense when they can achieve their goals by other means. And I just wish they had been upfront and honest about it to begin with so we could have all started the debate on equal footing. Saying one thing and meaning another is never a good way to begin a discussion or debate.

To help avoid some possible confusion, the meeting on September 27 and 28 is the Indiana General Assembly's Natural Resources Study Committee. It is composed of several Representatives and Senators of both major parties in the Indiana General Assembly. The committee looks at possible legislation during the summer and fall months that may be introduced when the legislative session begins again this winter. Here are the committee members:
Members: Sen. Ryan Mishler, Chairperson Sen. Greg Walker Sen. James Lewis Sen. Richard Young Rep. Robert Bischoff Rep. Paul Robertson Rep. Robert Cherry Rep. Dan Leonard
Staff: Steven Wenning, Attorney for the Committee Bernadette Bartlett, Fiscal Analyst for the Committee
The above committee should NOT be confused with the Natural Resources Commission, which is the entity that gave Preliminary Adoption to the proposed deer rule changes on July 20.

Wow Steve you got yours cheap. I had just started hunting and bought mine. I am probably in the last 100 or so, because I bought mine the day before gun season the year that they quit selling them, and my number is in the mid 24000's.

24th year of no more tags to buy, yet at the time my friends (whom have since changed their tune) thought I had lost my mind. Tags were 10 bucks and we couldnt shoot very many anyway.....then.
Thanks, Woody for keeping us updated on all this. It's going to be interesting, to say the least.
God Bless Steve
