At first, I thought I would wait for Woody to post his thoughts on the meeting today. But, I've got to head to another meeting in a few minutes so I'll give my 2 cents worth.
First and foremost - I thank Woody for stepping out in the midst of the NRC meeting to take the podium and speak for many of us here. I know we all do not agree on everything. But Woody did a fine job of trying to represent a lot of us hunters who do not belong to one of the "stakeholder" groups. And as he mentioned - we are a "group" of something approaching 250,000 (state deer hunters).
In a nutshell, I would say a spokesman from 6-7 groups of those in favor of the changes were allowed to speak first. Other than one or two "lone wolves", Woody was the only spokesman to speak against the changes - and he had to take to the microphone with a little force at that.
Many of us, the "public", were never allowed to speak as the committee adjourned.
We were told there will be "other" meetings in the future and we will be allowed to voice our opinion then.
I for one was a bit surprised that the format for the opportunity to speak dictated that you represented an "organization."
With that, I suggested to Woody at the end of the meeting - next time - represent this group here! We're better than a couple thousand strong!
I'm not sure, but I think that might be larger than any other individual group attending toady's meeting!
Once again, Thanks Woody!

I too, want to thank Woody for his time and energies on this matter.
FWIW, I feel this was decided well before the survey, long before today and the other two meetings won't change a thing.
The legislature (with input from their "friends")told the DNR what would be acceptable, the DNR did as they were told and it's over.

Thank you highcottonguide....nice seing you again..
I really would have liked for everyone that attended (both sides)to get to speak. I guess time constraints did not allow it?
I came away with a pretty good feeling that the NRC is listening to us. I did no feel that way before the meeting.
jjas,
As Yogi always said,"It ain't over, till it's over".
They said that the PCRs and the youth either sex passed either but they prevailed...
keep the faith.. we cant roll over.

i also want to thank Woody for what a great sportsman he is and for the effect he put in to get to the NRC meeting, i'm not sure why they(NRC) envite the public and cut us short if we as sportsman had a say in these new proposals.......looks like the good ole boys are alive and well......i believe the stamp is already sealed!!!!.......i wanted to bring up Tele-checking, sorry, for the folks that wanted it too!!!!..............................the meetings are not design for just regular sportsman, i think they(NRC) discouraged the regular sportsman for having any input at this meeting.......turkey scout

To do so would be dishonest. Not all members think the same way.

To do so would be dishonest. Not all members think the same way. swilk, that might be true but the IDHA and IBA are pushing for this rule change and all their members are not for it......not much difference in my opinion. h.h.

To do so would be dishonest. Not all members think the same way. In any organization or club not all members agree or think the same way but the fact is all it take is a simple majority to have an issue that must be represented by the figure head and there is nothiong disshonest about that it is the way all clubs or orgnizations works .So your post is out of line simply because he may not of represented you or some others did not in any way mean he did not represent an majority.

Wasn't aware that a "simple majority" was in agreement either.......if that's the case you are right.
Been reading this forum for a few years and don't recall any polls that got that kind of response though.
That's all I have to say about that.

To do so would be dishonest. Not all members think the same way. I'm not going to do anything dishonest. In any group there are people that vote a on a subject or a person and others that just hang on or around.. The only thing that any group can honestly say,"Of the members that felt so inclined to cast a vote XX% was for this and ##%was aainst it. That is what these group do that say," The Algamated Deer and Possum Hunters of Indiana support blah, blah, blah." I haven't seen any group yet give raw numbers as that would reveal exactly how many voted and/or how many members that they actually have.. "Perception" is a strong suit.. If we did anything like that would have to do it as poll OR I could send out email forms to every member and ask for returns. No different than any other groups, right? Something to mull over...

agree.
I would prefer a simple addition of giving actual numbers instead of percentages but I could live with the way you said it.

agree. I would prefer a simple addition of giving actual numbers instead of percentages but I could live with the way you said it. NO group gives raw numbers. They say " We are against it or for it." The end.. To give raw numbers would lose the "Perception.." If they lose that they cant get it back..

How was the popcorn Woody? Dang shame you didn't bring me any prune juice.... Glad you got to speak no matter if I agree with you or not. If Poynter would have said NO then I would have thrown a fit worthy of even being banned from future meetings and he knew that..
All should be heard... Fair and balanced.
Debate on.
