Since i'm a 3 season hunter, i don't have any issues with the proposals either. Illinois manages its deer heard just fine with less modern firearm days than the proposals. Iowa's opening day for firearms isn't until early Decemember, and we all know what kinda of bucks comes from that state each and every year, so i don't see how moving the start of firearm season back, will hurt.

I guess I just want the DNR to officially state their goal with the proposals and why they have chosen to go in that direction.
With that information, I can decide if I agree or not.

For or against make your voice heard.
Also it is really hard to compare states with completely different season structures and bag limits. In illinois you can kill two bucks and they can both be with a firearm. In Iowa it is unlimited bucks since party hunting is legal. Are these the things that make them big buck states or is it just something that is unique to their situation?

I just can't wait for opening day bow.Out picking blackberies with the wife. Saw 12 deer feeding in alfalfa 4 ,1.5 yr old bucks rest doe's and fawns. And then 20 minute's later 400 yds away on a imperial whitetail clover plot saw 6 bucks 3.5 to 5.5 year olds. Rough quess all 120 to 150 range. Decided long time ago to manage our farm best we could. Has paid off big time. The damn with the dnr. If we got too many doe's we shot some. We let all 1.5 and 2.5 year olds walk. Try not to shot button's. Suppley the deer with quality forage, mineral's and plenty of thick cover and they will spend alot of time on your property. Then you can manage how you seem fit. We only got 150 acre's and i'm telling you it's like a game farm. Course we have a couple neighbor's that are on same page with managing their deer also. Which helps.

I'm against any reduction in season lengths. I don't buy the notion that reducing the season length will increase hunter effort for most hunters.
I may consider taking a week off for firearms season, depending on what I shoot in bow season, but many can't do that. I don't feel a season should be so short that a guy has to take vacation to hunt more than a day. That's the deal in Ohio, season runs Monday to Saturday as I recall.

Makes no difference to me. I'll hunt with whatever, whenever and at whichever is legal at the moment.

But gun hunters will miss the key deer-killing weekend of the rut that was chosen years ago by the IDNR biologists to be the most effective at keeping the herd in check with the most effective weapon "The Firearm"!!!!!!!!
