Frankly, if I had more time to invest in it I would be more inclined to hold out for more of a trophy. But with such limited opportunity, I rarely let one walk by.
My gripe is with those "elitists" who endeavor to manipulate regulations, through whatever means, honest or not, for the sole purpose of increasing their chance at a wall-hanger, even if it adversely impacts other hunters.

No change. Hunters will take what "they" want regardless of the contest headgear points. So you are saying that if a tender little doe came in and a big buck was following her you would shoot the doe??? Because you know the doe eats better.

Knowing Deertracks he would kill the big buck...(who wouldn't?) but it would not be to help his team win a contest.

I'm sorry but killing a doe doesn't excite me. I do it to help keep the herd balanced. Call it what you want but I'd rather SEE a big buck than kill 100 does. I'm with you Mark. Guess I'm a " good ole boy"..lol...I love it! I'll hunt 200 hrs a year in a treestand during archery and pass many many many deer up waiting on a buck I want to take...Guess that makes me a antler worshipper too...Guilty as charged.. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

I have nothing against people that target big bucks only, more power to them! However, I do take issue with people that try to force their hunting style, choice of weapons, seasons, age of deer, size of rack etc. onto the rest of us to make it more likely that they will get their big buck by petitioning the DNR or legislaters to get their idea of how everyone should hunt made into law. Live and let live. Just how special will a 160" buck be when you personally know 20 people a year that kill them? Not very I'd wager. Killing big bucks consistently showed a hunter was dedicated and an above average hunter, through hard work, extensive scouting and sheer drive to harvest their target animal. Now, because of the popularity of hunting due to TV shows, everyone thinks they deserve a big buck without any of the afore mentioned work!

Why do we need to make a contest out of killing, be it bucks or does. In competitive fishing for the most part all are returned alive and if you have a dead one in your bag you are penalized. I have never participated in any type of contest that involves the killing of creatures be it based on weight, numbers ,or antlers. When I kill am animal it's something that happened between me and that animal...PERIOD

The time has come for deer hunters everywhere, in the spirit of that great statesman, Rodney King, to join hands and sing Kumbaya.
Wiener roast and smores to be served later. ;D ;D ;D

And then the doe before she knew what hit her with my trusty & quick cycling 11-87 20 Ga. Some of us are fierce competitiors in everything that we do, including enjoying the challange of the big buck, the wise old doe, our peers, & all of the fun-loving trash-talk that comes with the HI contest.
