I have seen many references to Permanone here. Can someone tell me about it and where to get it, what it costs, etc, etc.? I assume it is to repel ticks but have never tried it. Thanks, Hoosier.

You can get it at Walmart in the camping section. You spray it on your clothes and it keeps the ticks off and mosquito's from biting threw them. Ive never used it but a friend did and he said it worked good for him. Its costs about $5 a can suppose to last about 1 week. h.h.

The Duranon brand by Coulsons seems to work better than the Repel brand sold by Walmart IMHO. We get it at the local sporting goods store. It does work.

Permanoneā¢ is a permethrin based insecticide , a synthetic version of pyrethrin which is an organic pesticide derived from a particular variety of chrysanthemum . It's a pretty potent neurotoxin , I've literally seen flies drop right out of the air within seconds of exposure to it . Hunting clothing should be sprayed with it until slightly damp and then hung up to air dry before use . It lasts for up to 6 weeks .

I've used it for a few years, and it definitely works. Rarely find ticks on me since i've started using it. Just follow the directions on the can, you don't want to breathe this stuff or get it on your skin.

I've also used it for years. I spray my clothes with it a coupla days before turkey season and it lasts for the whole season. I've hunted with guys who didn't use it and were covered in ticks hunting next to me and I didn't find a single one on me! I'm sold on it, won't go to the woods in the spring without it. Even wear it while mushroom hunting. * Do not get it on your skin or ingest it if you can help it. Also, make sure your clothes dry out after spraying before you were them.

Its funny you asked because I was going to post a tip about this stuff.
I first used it about midway last year because of lots of ticks.
After I started using it I never had another tick on me the rest of the season.
This stuff is the real deal.
FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS!

Thanks for the speedy responses guys. I work in the woods every day and will definitely give this a try. I contracted Lyme's Disease around 1990 and don't want to think about going through that again (if it's possible). Any more comments about this stuff and its different brands, hints, etc. are appreciated. Best regards, Hoosier.

I used it for the last couple years and it definitely keeps the ticks off. I just wonder after giving your cloth a good dousing with it and from sweating or getting caught in the rain how much is absorbed into your skin.

I wondered that myself, as it works all season long....if it's potent enough to kill them 3 weeks after application, I'd say we absorb some. Hmmmmm........?

Hoosier, there is no difference in brands other than price and size of the can. I believe this stuff is controlled by the feds and it can only be a certain percentage of the Permethrin, the rest of the can is aerosol etc. Even though each company calls it something different, the contents are the same as far as the "active" chemical goes. 410, just because I can still use my hormones is no reason to be mad. And on a more serious note, after the spray dries it is safe even if it becomes wet. Thats according to the info I've read (which is probably by the Federal Gov't which we all know is 100% fact and truthful).

For what it is worth, I'm a degreed chemist and amateur toxicologist (I reviewed tox data for ~5 years at my old job), and I will be using it this year for work and play.
