Antler Restrictions on a Second Buck?? On the thread at – huntingindiana.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=deerhunting&action=display&thread=32440&page=1 - the subject of a second buck tag, although antler restricted was brought up. What are your feelings on an antler restricted second buck?I’m for a second buck tag - no restrictions I’m for a second buck tag - width restrictions I’m for a second buck tag - point restrictions I’m for a second buck tag - combination point & width restrictions I’m not for a second buck no matter what No Opinion . |

I don't think we should be forced to be trophy hunters. Hunting to me is about personal choices. I f I want to shoot two small bucks, that's my choice. Manage your land how you want, but don't push your ideas on to me. I obviously voted second buck with NO restrictions.

You know what I think I am sure ! .No restrictions on antlers . That is up to every hunter to set their antler minimum.

If this poll contained an option for some type of "earn a buck" I would choose that option ...... however, there is no such option so I choose "no opinion".

Ok so my eyes are old and I misvoted.... I thought it said WITH restrictions as in EAB just put on my old man glasses and see now that it says WIDTH restrictions. So I didnt really mean my vote.  I would have also voted no opinion same reason as swilk |

OBR FOREVER. Shoot whatever size buck you choose. Need meat shoot some extra' doe's. Really have the urge to kill additional buck's. Attend one or more park hunt's and/or military hunt's those don't count toward your one buck. If the DNR opt's for a earn a buck then why stop there shoot 3 or 4 or hey maybe just shoot as many deer buck's or doe's as you want. Just keep buying tag's beacause that my friend's is all the goverment agencie's truely want is your $$$$. I really don't believe they care about Indiana's deer herd. They care about how much $$$$ they can get from hunter's. It's us hunter's as a group that have voiced displeasure in how our deer herd was being managed as a whole that got the OBR in force to begin with. I like the current system. One buck the system is working.

It was a very small percentage of special hunters who want to own or ok what other hunters should shoot that were supported by some of the youngest or in most cases the least successful buck hunters in the state that wanted bucks grown up big and strong then spoon fed to them they did not want to pay thier dues and hunyt hard they just wanted other hunters to sacrafice thier second buck so thay might get one that is the trueth and it was not and is not supported by as many hunters as you think . OBR is still supported just as EAB is,or antler restrictions are by the not so good hunters with weak hunting land or no land at all who actually still have not figured out how to effectively hunt mature bucks ! It is what it is and this is the truth. |

Then if you read my post I also said that there was a smallpercentage of "sapecial" hunters that gained the fallowing of some other so that would put you in that small percentage of special hunters didn't it !!! I hate to do this but what about all them big mature deer you got where are they do you have on your wall or are you still waiting for them to jump out from behind every bush . Sure its not hard to shoot young imamature bucks or the average doe now is it ?? ?? You may very well have some big ones on your wall and then in that case that makes you in that group who feels compelled to controle what bucks other hunters take then dosn't it . And indeed you were one of the young hunters who fell in behinde the pushers of this since you were only in you mid twenties whe this was being pushed so you were struggling and still in the learning hopw to hunt mature deer at that time since the matureing of the hunter is as important as the matureing of the bucks when it comes to takeing them isn't it. |

I said if you read it all you were one of those young guys when this whole OBR was first talked about to be honest I have a hard time reading your posts about limiting other hunters to make your personal hunting better .You should never have to limit other hunters to have better hunting on your ground it all starts and ends with you ,your hunting habits ,and the way you manage and hunt your hunting land .Not what other hunters do on the land they hunt .Sure you may loose a couple of deer to other hunters but that is hunting isn't it. |

I don't see how killing 2 bucks helps you learn how to hunt big bucks? Or did I read this wrong? I can tell you this much, nobody will consistently kill a big buck by shooting every small one that comes past. I am what would be labeled a "trophy hunter" by some of your standards which means I have the will power not to crush every small buck that walks by. Honestly what is the difference between a tiny 2.5 yr old buck your not going to be proud of 2 weeks later and a doe? Will killing an extra tiny buck make a hunter feel better or like more of a hunter than the first? I don't care to control what size a deer any hunter can take, if a small buck makes you happy, then blast it. I guess my point is this: Wouldn't you rather have mature deer running your hunting grounds than small ones. I have a hard time believing any person on here who say's they wouldn't love to drop a trophy buck. Those are the guys that don't have the will power to pass on the small ones. |

IF the goal of the DNR is to reduce the deer herd and in effect kill more deer, WHY would any type of restriction be considered???

IMO, two things need to happen if that is truly their goal .....
Lower cost of antlerless tags.
Implement a program that is little or no cost (or hassle) to the hunters to donate meat to the needy.
I have a LTL so the first one doesnt really apply to me but it does to a lot of other folks.
However, just because I have enough tags to kill an almost limitless number of deer I usually only shoot two a year because I have no use for more meat than that.

Just out of curiousity if the EAB is such a great system why did the state of Wisconsin do away with it this past year? I don't live or hunt there but it seems some of the issues they was having was there was way way to many bucks and hardly any does because the does had been over harvested over the years. After several years of over harvesting does there wasn't any so everyone had to watch bucks walk by.
