Not long enough! Change the bonus tag system to allow only one per weapon, one bonus doe on archery, one on firearms and one on muzzleloader season. That would give the hunter 3 bonus deer total. Or allow only one bonus deer per day. h.h.

I think that the season should be long enough to let a guy get some hunting done on the weekends. So 3 weekends in the current season is pretty good. Ohio's firearms season is a week long, and if a guy can't take vacation, that's a real short season.
Also, if harvest numbers show trend of increase over several years, that's an indication of an increasing herd. Shortening the season isn't a good idea then. I've heard theories of shorter seasons making hunters spend more overall effort, but I'd rather have the longer season to spread guys out a bit.

My belief is that the season is from perfect to not long enough. Especially for the dedicated hunter. Look at the first weekend, lots and lots of hunters out there. What sarcastic people call the orange army, by the second weekend, there is not near as many, yes several got a deer opening weekend, but many of those that aren't there didn't. By the third week end you are down to the really dedicated deer hunter that wants to fill a freezer and feed his family.

Like said previously. Pick up the ML if you didnt get it done during firearms season. Honestly if you cant get it done in 32 days with a gun then its probably not going to happen. I know I know bow hunters get 3 months to get it done and people cant take off the entire 32 days of gun seasons. That may ruffle feathers but its only my opinion it doesnt really count for much.

Picking up the muzzleloader is fine and dandy except some people can't afford another gun or another license. The current season is inadequate and needs to be longer. I don't understand the opposition to a longer season, no more deer would be killed as your limited by the state on the amount of deer you are allowed to kill and it would allow peeps to be more selective. The dang tag costs so much a lot of "hunters" shoot the first thing they see because you only have three weekends or 6 days in the woods because few people can afford to waste their vacation on something not family oriented and Thanksgiving always falls on the last weekend, another family oriented thing. This whole rush and gush gun season sucks. And don't even get me started on the current fees and licensing costs. To have to buy a "buck" tag for all three seasons is ridiculous. I have a lifetime license so it don't cost me anything but I see how it affects my kids and friends etc.. Paying the state 24 dollars to go hunting 4 or 5 times at most because of other commitments like work and family time is asinine to say the least. No wonder hunter numbers are declining, especially in today's economy. The average hunting age is the mid 40's. Why is that do you think? We are gonna limit ourselves plumb out of existence. /endrant

My opinion is 32 days of gun hunting is way too long, and too stressful on the deer herd. I have no problem with the thought of combining gun and muzzeloader together. Just my opinion.

with the herd growing bigger and bigger every year, and the pressure from insurance companies, i could see the dnr to making the gun season longer along with cheaper doe tags to encourage hunters to kill more to help keep the heard from exploding.....imo

Compare Indiana's 32 days of gun hunting with any state in the midwest and you will see it is the most liberal. Not to hi-jack thread but I would like to see bow season extended all the way thru Jan.

Why would a hunter want to loose the opportunity to spend days in the field. Just leave it alone and go hunt. If you thinks season is to long, hunt 3 or 4 times and quit.

Muzzleloader Early Oct 17 - 25 Late Dec 21 - Jan 10 Shotgun First Dec 5 - 9 Second Dec 12 - 20 Hmmmm... at the present time 66% of the people who voted thinks it's just right or needs to be even longer.
