National Smallbore and High Power Silhouette Championships
The National Rifle Association has announced that the 2009 National Smallbore and High Power Rifle Silhouette Championships will be held the first week in August at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico.
Four separate Silhouette Championships comprise this well-known shooting event: The Smallbore Rifle Championship, the Smallbore Hunting Rifle Championship, the High Power Rifle Championship, and the High Power Hunting Rifle Championship.
“We are pleased to have The National Smallbore and High Power Silhouette Championships return to the Whittington Center in 2009,” said Kayne Robinson, Executive Director of General Operations. “The facility is the perfect venue for these shooting events with designated ranges for each discipline.”
The Smallbore Rifle Silhouette Championships will be held August 2-4, 2009. Both smallbore events use the same course of fire, shooting at four types of silhouette targets. Competitors will fire 40 rounds as follows: 10 shots at chickens (40 meters); 10 shots at pigs (60 meters); 10 shots at turkeys (77 meters); and 10 shots at rams (100 meters).
The High Power Rifle Silhouette Championships, held August 6-8, 2009, follow the same course of fire at longer distances for both events. Chicken targets are fired at 200 meters, pigs at 300 meters, turkeys at 385 meters, and rams at 500 meters.
For each of the four championships, shooters must compete in three matches (one per day), with the aggregate score determining the final rankings. The Individual Championship is determined by the aggregate score of all three matches, and the Team Championship is determined by the aggregate score of the three team members’ first two matches.
