My limit is about 10 ft.
Never really had any desire to climb any higher than that.
I have heard stories of guys climbing 20-30 feet.
What do you consider the "IDEA" height for your tree stand?

30'- 40' when I can find a good sized solid tree. Much better scent dispersal & I can move around more & not be detected.

I do not like heights, never have and probably never will, but I try to push myself to climb a little higher each time. I typically go between 15 and 20 feet up with a climber depending on the tree. I think height makes a big difference in archery season, especially if good cover is not available.

I like to get about 12' in my ladder stand. Although I've taken lots of deer from a ground blind.

2 of my most productive stands are right at 30 feet. That is measured height not guessed. I've heard a lot of guys talk about how high they hunt but ask them how they know and it's usually a guess. Measure it sometime and you'll be surprised at the height. This one with me sitting in the seat my range finder says 10 yards.

Mostly, I hunt from 15 foot ladder stands. I have one platform stand that is probably 25 feet. It is very different when you add the 10 feet of height. I like it because deer don't wind me nearly as easily.

I am with Mbogo. Heights are not my strong point, but really bothered when trying to get into a hang on stand, then back to the steps after wards. In my climber I can easily go as high as the tree will allow me or rope to pull my gear up. In the tree I have been climbing for the last 4 seasons I can get between 18-22 ft and that is good for the valley side. I don't do the sticks or steps anymore. Too dangerous for me.
Several yrs ago I climbed up into one of my bro in laws stands in a huge cotton wood. I nearly got sick it was so high. I know for a fact I would have not even taken a shot (archery) from that hight as the deer would have looked like chipmunks and the angle was so steep that I would not have felt comfortable. But I am sure it could be done, has been done but not by this fella

When I used a climber I would use a 25 foot pull up rope.
I tied that to my stand and to my bow or gun.
When I felt the climber lift the bow or gun off the ground I knew I was at the height I wanted to be.

16-28 feet, but it really depends on the cover and/or terrain. I normally end up between 20-24 though, where ever the cover is the best. I have a 30 foot rope attached to my seat/hand climber and when I climb until it tugs, that puts me at 28' as my platform will be two feet below.

I pull my bow off the ground with a 20 ft. pull rope tied to the platform of my climber. At Cliffty Falls I pull it higher because after the first 5 hours or so all the deer walk around looking up.
