If it's legal, why not.

I know a guy who shot one by mistake. No rookie, either, this guy usually nails a bird here, calls a few in for other folks, and hunts out of state. Probably by far the best turkey hunter I know personally. He would not do it on purpose, but I know he got one a few years back. He was depressed about it. Of course, I'm sure there are those that could never make that error...probably the same dudes that can always identify a button buck in fading light 100% of the time. Personally, I'd probably take one if I had the chance. There are a lot of birds here, and why make a beard the legal requirement if you aren't supposed to shoot them?

I guess for me it's just a personal choice..... a sense of pride. Probably the same reason why I shoot all drakes when I'm waterfowl hunting. In a way, it's like giving back to the resource and allowing that gal to make more 'shooters'!

A person can kill a tom every year, a bearded hen is uncommon and my area is covered up with turkeys. If I had the chance I would shoot one I would even if she had a tom behind her.
