I'm wanting to know how to become a hunter ed instructor. If anyone can tell me how to or who to get in touch with it would be appreciated. Thanks

You have to 21 or over and have a current Hunter Ed exam score of 90 or above. You can get an application from you District HQ, or ask the Instructors or ICO at the class have one sent to you. You will have to turn in reference forms and pass a background check, then the State will send you your credentials. While it is not mandatory, it is highly recommended you go to Hunter Ed Academy before you start teaching classes. It is weekend course the last full weekend in August held at Ross Camp outside of Lafayette every year.
Good luck, and happy teachings.

Taking a "Presentation Skills" class would be helpful too.

Be prepared for a long wait for confirmation after you send in your application. It took about 9 months for me, and a couple of phone calls. Seems they have some bad experiences over the years, people saying they want to be a HE Instructor, but it's like going to a meeting and seeing someone volunteer for a project, and wondering why they have never worked on it. They might just wait for several months to see if you were genuine in your wanting to be an instructor. Same thing happened to me when I applied to be a 4H Shooting Sports Instructor. Got PO'd and ask one of the instructors what was the big holdup? Same thing as when I applied for HE? YUP! If you are serious, go for it, if not, please do not waste their time, they are busy. For 4H I had to undergo a serious background check to make sure I was not a felon or a sex pervert [glad they didn't question my wife, LOL].
