Had a guy at work today, tell me that he uses a pellet gun for squirrel hunting. He said he has a silencer on it as well. He also said that he'd never use anything else.....So tell me was he pulling my leg, or do people really use pellet guns on these critters?
BTW i'm working in Lexington, Ky,,,,,,,,,,,some strange people in these parts! lol

He's probably telling you the truth. My friend loaned me his to hunt with a bit. It will kill squirrels at 50 yards no problem. His is German made and fires a .177 caliber pellet over 1000 fps. Groups at 50 yards are less than 1" too. These guns are nothing like the Daisys and Crossmans I grew up with!

They kill every size of game with air rifles these days.

You can get a Mendoza 600 in .22 cal. that will shoot around 950 fps and is under $170.00... it has great reviews too. Pyramid Air has them. Or the Gammo Whisper in .22, or the Walther

Careful, just like any other gun, once you start you can stop.

My sons got me a Crossman 1000 FPS air gun for Christmas. For the main purpose of squirrel hunting. I was very surprised at teh accuracy. Its not a high dollar gun. Came with a cheap scope which I will replace before I hunt with it. But this is a 20 yard group. I shot it at 50 and hit a 2" bullseye after sighting it in at 20 yards.

hunter7x (not being belittling here) but make sure you buy a Air Rifle scope designed to take the 2 way recoil of a springer air gun.

I used a RWS MDL. 52 for years and killed squirrels with it, and used it once or twice to knock coons out.

Yep. But they move good when you put one in the hindquarters.

I've used a variety of air rifles for small game since childhood. I used to take out rabbits at up to 30 yards with a Daisy 880 pumper in my teens, you can literally put their eye out(fatally) with that rifle and a 4x scope. At 50 yards it held a less than 1" grouping. These days I have a Daisy 1000 springer that mostly sends "Get lost!" messages to roving felines that make the mistake of patrolling my property when I'm home, I rarely see them twice. It can easily slam a 4 grain wadcutter pellet through a steel can at 25 yards. I've taken squirrels out to 40 yards with it with no difficulty, and they were usually 50'+ up a hickory tree.
