Hi all,
Just joined the forum, and just got interested in starting hunting and returning to fishing.
I've been hunting exactly once in my life back when I was 17 or so (duck hunting with friends--didn't get anything). I used to fish quite avidly (lived within about a 2 minute walk to a stream with catfish and perch), but that stopped when I turned 16 and needed (by Ohio law at the time) to get a fishing license. The tackle was "legacy" but the license required cash I didn't have back then.
I'm already a shooter (two rifles--Ruger 10/22 and Mosin Nagant 91/30, and I plan to buy my first shotgun when I get paid at the end of the month). The tackle I had when I was a teen is long gone so I'll need to start acquiring that. I'll probably also want to buy a small boat, maybe a canoe (for ease of storage).
Any suggestion on getting started, places to go, etc. would be much appreciated.

Welcome! As far as fishing gear goes, I'd save up and buy a good quality rod that can handle 10-12# test line for cats, bass, walleye etc., and a lighter rod for panfish or when the above mentioned are finicky, cold water, clear water etc. If you buy good quality fishing rods/reels, they will last longer, function better and generally help your fishing experience. As far as all of the other gear you will want/need, watch for sales and buy a few pieces each week. Garage sales around lakes are a very good source of cheap fishing tackle. One other note, you'll want to use line from a reputable manufacturer as well. I don't know how many times I've seen cheap line cost one of my friends a fish. You get what you pay for! Good luck, and welcome back to the outdoor life style!

Welcome db. Glad to have you on board. Check-out the Gander Mountain up in your neck of the woods just off of Allisonville Rd. The best all-around small boat for my money is the 9 foot 2 man Bass Tracker. Good luck!

Welcome. Glad to see you were'nt lost to the outside world forever. I agree with decatur, you do get what you pay for. So my advice would be by a little at a time and by the best quality you can afford and don't try to buy everything thing at once. Quality not quantity. Good Luck.
