Well..
I ALWAYS use a backpack. I often carry lots of extra gear and if I had to rebuild my bow, I could practically do it in the woods. I carry my rain gear, flashlight, drag rope, first aid kit, water bottle, extra bowstring, extra socks, sweatshirt, toilet tissue and sometimes a small lunch for the days I plan on staying in the treestand longer.
I also carry my cover scents, attractant scents, extra release, topo map of the area, camera and of course my cellphone and survival equipment if needed. (I could almost use a pack mule but I try to be prepared.)
If I take an animal, I field dress it and then I "hide" it in a dead fall with my jacket or sweatshirt on top of it to keep the predators away. I head back to the truck and I get my 2 wheel deer cart with the bicycle tires and wheels on it then I head back to haul the deer out.

Bad days a back pack . good nice days a fanny pack only. Good to be prepared for what is thrown at you.
