Hey guys... having a little fun trying to decide on which pose to get my deer mounted in. Anyone care to share pics of their mounts... and possible suggestions? Personally I'm leaning towards a pedestal mount.. as I find them very unique.. and much more appealing than a head sticking out of a wall... not to mention my wife likes them better also. Edit... Here's a pic of my little deer that's I'm getting mounted...

Woodmaster on here has a couple of pedestal mounts.
If you have the room for them, they are very nice..

May I suggest ...........semisneak. If you have young children I dont know about the pedestal mount. It would be out of the question at my house. Although they do look great.I would find a reputable taxi and look at his work. While your there check out some of the poses he has done. Find a pose that really shows off the rack. If the racks not real wide maybe have him pull the ears back a little. Dean at Coal hollow Taxidermy does good work. He has a link at the bottom of this page. I think he goes by taxidermyman on this site.

semisneak... my original choice was a Semisneak w/ a left turn... but the pedestal really caught my eye. I do have little children (ages 5 & 8).. but I think I'm going to do the pedestal so that I can put it on top of a piece of furniture to keep it out of their reach.

I don't have any pedestal mounts but they look good. I have 2 deer in semi sneak and another in sneak love them! Do you have it at a taxidermist yet? If not PM me I know a REALLY GOOD one!

Awesome buck! Here is a picture of my favorite mount. It is called "Head Up". I think McKenzie makes the form. I can find out for you. I've never seen a better "customer" mount done by a taxidermist. It is close to competition quality. Have you taken to a Taxidermist yet? Please don't take it to the "cheapest" one you can find. It really bothers me to see a guy take the time and effort to kill a nice buck and then save $50 - $100 on the mount only to get a crappy mount back. If you have a deer on the wall for 20 years your savings is only $5 a year. You get what you pay for in taxidermy! I don't have a picture of the pedestal mount handy......I'll try to get one for ya.

I would suggest semi-sneak while doing a lip curl. Very unique and looks great IMHO.

Here is a pic of one of my first mounts.I went with the cheapest taxidermist I could find($225.00),Needless to say I wasn't very happy with it(neck area looks awful),and he didn't keep his word on when I would get it back, took 6 months longer than what he told me.I would get the best guy you can find.Cheaper isn't always better..As for deciding on what mount to get,I would go to Van Dykes site and check some out there..

Here is one of my favorite positions in a mount. I shot this buck when he was scent checking a doe, so I opted for a post that reflected that postion at the time.

I hope that guy is not still in business. I had similar results with my first buck I had mounted. IT weighed 200 lbs. Huge neck. When I was dropping it off a guy came in wanting a cape for a big buck he shot but his buddy ruined his cape. I think that guy got my cape because when I got my deer back it looked like it was done on a doe form. My friends thought it was funny but I wasnt to happy.

Besides the earbuts being too long and a little too low on the neck and the taxidermist TRYING to get too much detail in the neck, it isn't all that bad of a mount. I've seen a lot worst for that price.

Hey Hunter7x,

KBacon... Pedestal mounts are awesome... BUT, keep in mind that you are looking at an additional $250-$400 for the floor base that goes with the mount cost.

Here are 3 different pedestals mounts. I made the first 2 bases and the 3rd came from a VanD.ykes. I talked to my Taxidermist and DEC and my deer are mounted on a McKenzie Semi-Sneak Head Up form. The deer in the 1st pic is mounted on a McKenzie Semi-Sneak Head Down Form. The first 2 deer score in the 180s and the bottom deer scored in the 190s.
