Does anyone hunt woodcocks around the state if so are there any public lands that are good for it. I have recently adopted a german shorthair that i hope will be ready for next year I am just tring to plan ahead so when he is ready I will know where to go.
Thanks

I don't usually specifically set out for woodcock, but will take them opportunistically (if I can hit those little missiles). Usually find them around a source of water. Wetland edges are typically pretty good. Low lying hardwoods/scrub forests are also good. They migrated a little early this year. I saw a lot during the early duck season of an evening around the lake we hunt.

I think the main flight went through about a month ago but some internet friends in the Ft. Wayne area reported seeing several birds last week-end.
There's always the hunting preserves to work the dog.

Those are my figures Jack, about a month ago. I'll probably see some on the way out of the duck marsh next wednesday, I usually do.
