I've just recently moved to Indiana and would love to have a go at a few pheasants. Unfortunately, South Dakota's out of the question this year so I was wondering about the game farm route.
Who's done it? Where did you go? How would you rate the experience? Would you do it again?
~Thanks for your input~

As far south as you are South Dakota is probably as close as northern Indiana where a few wild birds exist. The game farm is okay but you won't mistake them for wild birds. Closest to you that I know of is Sugar Creek Preserve in Mitchell, IN. Here's a listing from Quail Unlimited of preserves in Indiana: www.qu.org/main/huntdir/huntdir_results.cfmJack

Lost River is good too. They usually put out a few pamphlets at the Dick's store in Clarksville. Be sure to call ahead at both places, they get pretty busy. Sugar creek also has a great trap/skeet range.

Flatrock Preserve is very close to Indianapolis. As others stated not like real wild birds. I took my son their last year for his first bird hunt. I only started hunting in Indiana few years ago (most of my time was done in Texas) so I am not familar with the bird situation here; but, several people at my gun club state that Indiana has a good crop of wild birds. So maybe it not a total loss. waterdeep.lightbound.com/~carrigan/

I`m gonna give Shawn Brown a plug again-Royal Flush is west-central, Parke county, and they have great cover, even late in the year when most other is beat down. I don`t have a dog, so the quality of the guides is important for me, and their guides are fantastic.
Pen-raised birds? You bet. Good company and fun hunt? You bet again.

Sounds like Royal Flush would be worth the extra drive for me. I may try Lost River in the next couple of weeks since it's so close to home and try RF later in the season when it gets a little cooler. May do Flatrock, too.
Anybody interested in getting together for a group hunt? I can hunt alone anytime and it's almost always nicer when you can bring the social aspect to bear.
I'm leaving in the morning for a week of fishing on the Delaware coast so I'll be scarce until middle of next week. If you're interested just PM me and we'll get on with it.

I`m usually up for meeting a new "friend" and doing some hunting. If you want to hunt Royal Flush let me know-I`ll meet you there and hunt with ya. I can introduce you to Shawn Brown, and we`ll have a ball knocking birds down.
The only thing is, I won`t bird hunt `till after muzzloader season is out.

I have not visited/hunted any game farms in Indiana. I have only hunted at the Quail Shed in Martinsville, Illinois. That is a good farm. The birds are OK. We have our own dog, so I didn't have to rely on a guide.
