Idaho sage grouse test positive for West Nile virus
BOISE -- Idaho Fish and Game officers say so far eight sage grouse in Idaho have tested positive for West Nile virus.
Idaho Fish and Game says eight sage grouse have tested positive for West Nile virus.
Another 16 sage grouse found on the Duck Valley Indian Reservation on Idaho's southern border and about 30 grouse found dead in Owyhee County in southwestern Idaho are also suspected of dying from the virus.
Ranchers and antelope hunters are seeing an unusually high number of dead sage grouse in the field in Owyhee County.
Department biologists are checking on about 150 radio-collared sage grouse across the state to get an indication how widespread the West Nile infection may be.
Besides Idaho, sage grouse have tested positive for West Nile Virus in Montana, Wyoming and Oregon
