Hey fellas.. lil help here please. and im sorry if this has been asked a lot already. Solo is helpin me out on a plot on a recently purchased property... mowin was goin strong yesterday until i broke the fan belt... SO! gonna be probably now be he says realistically first week or so in september before i can plant anything. I need some advice on what may still work. This piece of ground is not huge... but trust me it holds some beauties when surrounded by corn like it is this year. Right now it is 3 acre woods.... 4 and half acres set aside...surrounded by probably total of 200 acres corn in every direction.. but tree lines feed right to this baby. Nothin green around to speak of and they already like what clover is in the "set aside". In the back little pocket is where this 1/4-1/2 acre plot is goin. Lil help???

Not sure exactly where you are at, but I planted my plot last year the week after Labor Day. I wasn't able to get stumps out of the way until that weekend, and when it did get planted, it did just fine- the perennial stuff is still going strong.
I had a thread on what I did last year. Look for it; I think the title of the thread was something along the lines of "Recipe for a food plot"...

Noble,
You still have time to plant annuals for a fall plot. Any of the fall plot turnip-brassics-oats mixes will work. Mix in clovers for next year. That way you get the benefit of a fall plot and no work for a spring-summer clover plot next year. Just re-fertilize in April and mow every few weeks.
Rural King has Evolved Habitat and their own brand. Buy a bag of the fall blends annuals and mix it with a bag of perennial clover blend. Use triple 12 fertilizer at 300 lb to the acre and you will have a nice plot. h.h.

Ive used Shot Plot for the last 4-5 years and it will work up into late January, early February. It takes a couple good frost before the deer really get after it. The frost makes the sugars go into the leaves. Plus you can pull a few turnips for snacking in the stand.
I mix Shot Plot and Pro-vide together. That way the turnips and rape are for this fall and the Pro-vide is mostly clovers and it comes up next spring.
I would mix Shot Plot with either Pro-vide or one of the Rural King brands that has the most clover in it. Read the labels and it should tell you which one has the most clover. h.h.

noble,
I told you wrong about the Pro-Graze. Its Pro-vide that I mix with Shot Plot. I looked at Rural King today and Shot Plot is the better fall blend and Pro-vide has the most clovers in it for the spring-summer plot.
Rural Kings Perennial Plus has clover too but not as much as Pro-vide.
The Logger Trail mix is nothing more than fescue grass and another grass seed. h.h.
