I planted ladino clover mixed with chicory on the 21st, a little more than a 1/4 acre. With the rain today it should come up soon.
Haven't decided what I'll add this fall.

Just burnt off about 50 acres of prairie grasses. That knocks of some of the undesireable weeds and helps the prairie grass re-seed and come on strong. That stuff will be 7' tall by deer season. Great bedding cover until the snow knocks it down.

Spring plots which are in (1.25 acres): millet, cow peas, ladino clover, turnip and chicory. Will be putting in a couple of late spring plots (.5 acres) in next week or two weather permitting Mid-Late August plots will ge turnip (.25 - .5 acre).

My clover finally came out of it. Those hard frost had me worried for a while. All the weeds I sprayed are dead and the clover is really growing

I have used Arrest by Whitetail Institute in the past,it did a decent job of killing other grasses instead of my clover.

Arrest does work but it cost a lot. For Broadleaf the stuff is called Butyrac 200 and it is 34.95 per gallon. U use 2 oz. per gallon. I will have to look at the bottle for the grass killer. I also have used Pursuit. Poast Plus works if you can find it in small bottles. I think it is around 400 per gallon other wise. Plus to help I always squirt some dawn dishsoap in last thing.

Sorry I got the Butyrac at Keystone Pest Solutions. They have an entire section for wildlife food plots. My grass killer I got at the local CO-OP. I made a mistake they have Trigger which is a grass killer for 117.95 and Poast Plus for 129 for 2 half gallons. It was the Pursuit that cost a boat load.

Select will be the cheapest if you don't have a lot of braodleafs in with the grass. It'll kill all the grass and most of the weeds.

I didn't think the Arrest was too expensive. I believe I paid around $32.00 last year and it treated my 1/4 acre plot twice, which was enough to eradicate all the grasses the whole year.

I guess it would depend on the size of the plot and the amount of grass. I found some good cheap stuff at the CO-OP called HI-Yield to kill grass. It was 18 for 8oz. YOu use one oz per gallon. It came in bigger sizes to. I seem to have to spray spring, summer and if I see any others sneak up in the fall.

Doesn't look like I'll have to spray at all this year. My plot is already a foot high, very thick and no grasses at all. I sprayed Arrest twice last year and put down 40 Lbs. of 12-12-12 early this spring. Like everything else here in central Indiana though, it could sure use some rain.

I mowed my clover plots couple weeks ago and checked them Tuesday and they looked real good, very few weeds at all and a lot of blossoms. h.h.

Will be planting a couple of millet plots (acre or less total) tomorrow morning and may be tempted to plant another 1/2 acre or so of millet in about two weeks. So far, weeds have not been a problem in the plots planted earlier in season. Though would be nice to get a bit of rain sometime this weekend.

Finished a small late tree planting yesterday (persimmon, cherry bark oak and a few black gum trees) and another 1/4 acre in millet. Last 1/4 acre of miller will be planted this weekend.
