I've dicovered to my delight that some of the persimmon trees at my place are already dropping some nice sweet "deer crack" , and it's right over a trail they use to cross my place from the soybean field across the road . Things are looking up !

I remember where they are , and I'm hoping to intercept a nice fat doe who happens to be on her way to them . I gather you'll be in that big ash tree you showed me ? No prob on that drag out , perhaps I'll make you return the favor ...

YOu can just mail it to me if you don't mind ;D I don't think two or three spindly persimmon trees are gonna produce enough of those little gems for me , my wife , and the deer , looks like you'll have to hoof it out to the woods and find some . I went to the Crawford Co. Sorghum festival Saturday with the wife and two of our grandkids , and I still ended up buying some pulp !

I've got the same thing on my little place. That stand has produced a decent buck the last 5 or 6 years. It is a natural travel area, so that helps too.

Ours produced ok , but I'm considering a little bit of fertilizer this year to increase their yield .
If I can find nursery stock there's a Japanese persimmon that I'd like to add . It's called "Fuyu" , and it sets fruit nearly as big as tennis balls . I first saw and tasted one at a Kroger produce area , the flavor was identical to it's smaller American cousin . The seeds were the same size , and about the same in number , so you got way more pulp from them . A small grove of them , perhaps mixed with Paw-paws , would produce plenty of puddings and be a veritable deer magnet by the time bow season began .

FUYO Too!!!! As well as the deer you would have to add opposum, coon, fox, yote, various birds, as well. But don't let your neighbors know you are planting them as they will get jelous and try to claim you are hoarding all the deer to yourself for pure selfish reasons.

I'm not selfish about sharing my little patch , I host kids who want to learn to hunt whenever I get the chance , and the occasional adult too . There's plenty of deer and other game to go around down here , and my neighbors don't hunt anyway . In fact , since they're kinda "bunny huggerish" they actually appreciate my attempts to coax more wildlife to the area . They're not crazy about the "BOOM !" part though . ;D

How long does a small group of trees take to produce fruit?

Three to five years depending on the cultivar .
