Any topical cream that contains diphenhydrmine hydrochloride, at least 2%. You can buy this "O.T.C." anything stronger requires a prescription.

Had them on the fronts of my ankles real bad a week or two ago. Pretty much ridded myself of them with some peroxide applied after a shower and then a couple applications of "Ivy Dry" spray. I think I did the peroxide once and the Ivy Dry a few times, mainly for the itching. It burned real bad when applied- found out the hard way you DO NOT want to apply that stuff to a certain area of the male body, as I had two bites in that region as well. ;D

If you look really close, under light, you can see these critters crawing around on your skin. I take some rubbing alcohol to remove them.

I have used an OTC medicine called "Chig-a-Rid". Anymore, I have them all summer and have given up the battle and try my best to ignore them...

thanks guys, here"s my input that help me picking raspberries ,black berries, and going squirrel hunting, just before i go i use rubbing alcohol on my ankles, legs, and waist line.(this helps in the chiggers won"t dig in as well). then when i return, i take a hot shower, then re-apply the alcohol agin, this has worked for me for years, the key is the first step BEFORE YOU GO apply alcohol. if by chance you get some chiggers, we apply finger-nail polish(clear) to the infested area.(this smothers them in two days, apply polish every day. hope this helps.....turkey scout thanks for sharing ....any more tips? p.s. hoosier i figured you would have the best remedy! being outdoors all the time...have a good day! hey drs, thanks for that info, boy you got good eyes!next step is go to the drug store, thanks agin

the best thing ive used for chiggers is bleach. an old friend of mine told me about this remedy a few years ago and it works. scratch then first to open the skin and then dab on some bleach. it burns just a little and then quits. it forms a small scab but no more itching. works good. h.h.

The best thing I've ever used was a topical cream containing 1% lindane , but it was prescription only . Killed the little bassturds overnight .
I tried bleach for a recent infestation that's left my left ankle looking pretty sorry , but it still itched like fire the next day . Finally , out of desperation I creamed the ankle thickly with Vaseline Intensive Care lotion , wrapped it in plastic wrap , and then covered it with an Ace bandage overnight . Voila ! The next day the itching was noticeably reduced , and now it's completely gone 2 days hence . I've also heard that wrapping the affected area with masking tape can be effective also because the chiggers stick to the tape when they back out of your skin trying to breathe and are removed with the tape . Anymore I don't go near the weeds without spraying Off or Permanone on my lower limbs .

HEY GUYS,anybody ever heard of "powder sulfur" used to keep those chiggers off? ....turkey scout You're probably referring to "flowers of sulphur", I used to see it in the drug stores when I was a kid, though not anymore. I don't think rubbing pure sulphur on your skin would be good for it, sulphur is very acidic, and the smell certainly won't win you any friends.

The best tip I can give you is preventative: Spray all your lower garments with a good repellent, and shower immediately upon returning home. I rarely have problems even when I only do the shower half of this strategy. I got them all over my ankles once after scouting last summer. I kept the same shoes and socks on and proceeded to mow the yard when I got home. BAD IDEA!

I read an article over the weekend that recommends using household amonia for the flesh eating critters.

After you return home, from being in a area that has chiggers; check your ankles and legs, under a good light, and you can see these tiny "creatures" crawing about. Get some Duct Tape and capture them with the sticky side of the tape.
