Text for the Day -- Luke 9:46-48 ---------- An argument arose among them as to which one of them was the greatest. But Jesus, aware of their inner thoughts, took a little child and put it by his side, and said to them, "Whoever welcomes this child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me; for the least among all of you is the greatest."
Devotional ---------- It seems to be a natural thing for humans to have to know who is the best, the top dog, the greatest. There seems to be an inherent competitive spirit in us. Often this drive in us to be best means making others less. Jesus uses a child to teach a powerful lesson. The least among us is the greatest. God's great reversal of the human perspective takes place to lift up true greatness.
Prayer ---------------- Lord, cleanse my spirit of self-acclamation of greatness so that I do not create tragedy. Amen
