Text for the Day -- Proverbs 22:2-5 ---------- The rich and the poor have this in common: the LORD is the maker of them all. The clever see danger and hide; but the simple go on, and suffer for it. The reward for humility and fear of the LORD is riches and honor and life. Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse; the cautious will keep far from them.
Devotional ---------- Proverbs puts forth values that have long range effects for good. Its wisdom is lifted up through the contrast between two options. It appears that if you seek to get rich, you will lose your good name. Notice the verse about the rich and the poor. It is a subtle way that being rich is not necessarily the work of God blessing one person above another. God does not love the rich more than the poor.
Prayer ----------------- Keep me rich in faith and hope, O Lord. Amen
