Text for the Day -- Luke 19:45-48

Then he entered the temple and began to drive out those who were
selling things there; and he said, "It is written, "My house shall be
a house of prayer'; but you have made it a den of robbers." Every day
he was teaching in the temple. The chief priests, the scribes, and
the leaders of the people kept looking for a way to kill him; but
they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were
spellbound by what they heard.
Devotional

When people violate the sacred, crisis or judgment occurs. Jesus, in
this text, is the agent of crisis, judging those who turn the temple
into a market place. Of course, crisis creates a response. God, when
judging, looks for a repentant response. However, the response is
often like that of the religious leaders - moving against Jesus
rather than repenting. They would kill him if they had the chance
rather than repent. Eventually they did kill him.

Help me keep my sensibilities about sacred things, Lord. Amen
