Text for the Day -- James 2:14-17 ---------- What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you? If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill," and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.
Devotional ---------- The book of James is part of the wisdom literature of the New Testament. As such it puts emphasis on right action prescribed by God's wisdom. Faith is interpreted in James as faithfulness in living out the Gospel truth of love and justice. We are called to believe the promise, to have faith in Jesus as God's Son and Savior of the world. But, we are also called to walk faithfully in the new life of God's "Spirit-directed" wisdom.
Prayer -------------- Help me act faithfully as well as trusting faithfully in your saving work for me, O Lord. Amen
