Text for the Day -- Psalm 48:1-3, 9-11 ---------- Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised in the city of our God. His holy mountain, beautiful in elevation, is the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion, in the far north, the city of the great King. Within its citadels God has shown himself a sure defense.
We ponder your steadfast love, O God, in the midst of your temple. Your name, O God, like your praise, reaches to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is filled with victory. Let Mount Zion be glad, let the towns of Judah rejoice because of your judgments.
Devotional ---------- Zion, the mountain of the Lord, is lifted up as a metaphor for the strength and beauty of God. God is our citadel, our high place, a place of security, peace and joy. One purpose for going to worship together is sounded in the words, "We ponder your steadfast love, O Lord in the midst of your temple." The community of faith helps us remember the power of that love for our lives.
Prayer --------------- I thank you for your steadfast love, O Lord, and the joy it brings me as I remember your goodness to me. Amen
