Text for the Day -- Proverbs 8:1-5, 10-12 ---------- Does not wisdom call, and does not understanding raise her voice? On the heights, beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand; beside the gates in front of the town, at the entrance of the portals she cries out: ‘To you, O people, I call, and my cry is to all that live. O simple ones, learn prudence; acquire intelligence, you who lack it. Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold; for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her. I, wisdom, live with prudence, and I attain knowledge and discretion.
Devotional ---------- Wisdom stands in a public place and invites all to come and learn the truth of God. Later in this chapter wisdom describes being brought forth at the beginning of creation and was present at the creation of the world. Through wisdom, God's truth is revealed to those who come to learn. Wisdom's learning is greater than any amount of wealth. It is the treasure of the soul. Jesus said, what if you gain the whole world but lose your soul. Do not let worldly treasures become the measure of your life.
Prayer ----------------- Thank you, God, for the gift of wisdom, your treasure that teaches my soul your truth. Amen
