Text for the Day -- Luke 18:15-17 ---------- People were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them; and when the disciples saw it, they sternly ordered them not to do it. But Jesus called for them and said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.'
Devotional ---------- When the disciples try to keep the children from Jesus, Jesus rebukes them and invites the children to come to him. He said that children are a sign of those who belong in the kingdom of God. Perhaps it is their dependency and trust that Jesus was extolling. May be it was their sense of wonder and openness to God. One thing is clear, if children are going to love and respect they need to experience it from adults. Draw children close and do not reject them. You cannot tell a child to love and not love them first. This is the way God dealt with us. He loved us and expressed that love in Jesus, and now God looks for us to emulate that love to others.
Prayer ------------------ O God, open my heart to children with love. Amen
