Text for the Day -- John 1:6-8

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a
witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through
him. He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the
light.
Devotional
----------
As Jesus later pointed out in the Gospel, John's greatness was seen
in his humility. His task was to point to Jesus as the Messiah, the
long awaited Anointed One of God. Even though John had a ministry and
disciples, he did not see himself as the one to be followed. He
recognized what the moment was about when Jesus came to be baptized
by him. God was going to do something for the world through Jesus
that he could not do - become the Savior of the world.

Help me be a pointer to Jesus for others, gracious Lord. Amen
