Mine was improperly prepared muskrat. It tasted just like a muskrat smells! YUK!! You trappers know what I'm talking about. That is one dish I'll NEVER eat again! Story number 2 comes from my dad and brother. We were smallmouth fishing in MO, wading creeks. We saw a cottonmouth moccasin and I accidently hooked it with my Black Fury. Long story short, we had to kill it to get it off. I told my dad I wanted the skin to dry so we began to skin it. During this process dad says "let's eat it, I ate rattlesnake when I was stationed in camp Pendelton." So we build a fire and roast it up. All is going good until my brother Matt says "man, I don't like this. It tastes terrible!" We were all enjoying it, so dad said "give it to me I'll eat it!" Dad took one bite and spit it out! Comparing the piece of meat with the skin, we noticed they were eating the ***hole! My dad's famous quote was "If anybody ever tells you they are hungry enough to eat the ***hole out of a snake, they're lying!" ;D

My brother & I were around 10-11. We caught a mess of crawdads out of a drainage ditch to fix ala ka-bob over our fire with willow branches. They tasted like the fertilizer used in the adjoining ag fields. Right down nasty!!!!!!!!!!

My worst was probably the time I tried possum , how anybody can eat one of those vile things is beyond me .

I'll 2nd the 'possum!
Most game is O.K. as long as it's cleaned and stored correctly tho.
When I was younger I trapped, and had a pretty adventurous grandmother. As long as she/we cooked it at her house, pretty much anything that I brought home hit the stove/oven at least once.
I bought a Remington Wild Game Cookbook that had LOTS of recipes for critters and had the following: Beaver both the meat and tail Muskrat Opossum Raccoon along with the usual small game including turtles, & crawfish.
The beaver meat was on the sweet side, but I really disliked the tail. The opossum was the greasiest thing that I've had. Taht cookbook has a good recipe for muskrat meatloaf - Dad had some and didn't know what he ate 'till later.... ;D

We were attempting to try porcupine once but when noticing the excessive tape worms when cleaning it that really turned us off.

I can't say I've ever eaten disgusting wild game (thank goodness!), but I do have kind of a disgusting wild game story... My parents have a pond in front of their house, in which they kill muskrats. When I was in high school, I came home from my job as a cake decorator at a grocery store, walked in the house, and was welcomed by my dad saying "I killed a muskrat while you were at work--I skinned him for you to dissect if you want and it's in the fridge." I was interested in going into medicine at this time and really enjoyed dissections at school (I had never even dreamed of dissecting anything at home and had never mentioned anything like the idea), so I didn't know whether he was joking or not. I checked the fridge, and--yes, sure enough--there was a skinned muskrat wrapped in saran wrap in a tray in the bottom of the fridge! After wondering why on earth my dad would think I'd be interested in dissecting a muskrat, I had to tactfully make up some reason for why I couldn't do it...I still can't believe he thought I actually had some interest in doing that!

Tried one of those pond mullosks (the ones that raccoons eat). Cooked it like a freshwater mussel and it was disgusting.

If I have killed it then I have tried it atleast once...... I can tell ya that I do not like coon.... or possum... Crow is edible but not very good and pretty tough and stringy.....
But the worst had to be eating sucker fish cooked on a fire right there on the rivers edge.... cut out a big ol slab of it when I was about 14 or 15 and stuck it on a stick.... it not only tasted bad.... it was undercooked to boot...... Puked with out even getting one bight choked down.

Coon is good eats when cooked right! I boil it for about 3 hours to tenderize and help cook a lot of the fat out of the meat. Then either BBQ it or cover it with kraut, braised apples and onions and throw it in a crock pot for 4-5 hours. You should give it a try!

LOL my better half does not accept excuses... I have a rule when it comes to hunting.... I let her know in advance that I am going, but I make no promises about when I will return (more than once I have called to tell her i was not comming home that night cause I did not want to make the hour drive home just to get up again in a few hours and drive back)

In Ontario the suckers in our cold creeks is actually very good especially jarred. The one thing I tried that was the worst thing I ever put in my mouth was seal meat. I guy I work with is from Newfoundland and he always talked how good it was. WE made a game trade I did up a great venison roast and he brings me in some home prepared seal. I wouldn't give that stuff to my worst enemy!!!
