I am interested in buying a trail cam. I have checked out the chasin game website reviews but would like some opinions from those who have used them. I cannot justify spending over $200.00 for one. Based on what I have read, the one manufacturer that seems to stand out for price, quality and performance is Moultrie. I see that they have a couple in the $100 - $150 range. Your thoughts please.

I have 4 of the Moultrie. D40's I think the cheaper ones. I really like them and have no complants. I got mine for 89 bucks each.

parrothead,
Thanks for the response! Where did you buy them? How long do the batteries typically last during warm and cold weather?

Call and get a Natchez shooting supply magazine. They have them in there for 89 bucks. I then took that book to Wal-Mart and they matched the price. Warm weather I would get 5-6 weeks with about 200 pictures a week on each. Cold weather eats them up. 3 weeks tops but that all depends on the amount of pictures of course.

I've owned three Moultries, a Game Spy 200, and two D40's. The D40's are nice and have batteries last up to two months in nice weather. Only a few weeks in cold weather. The only problem I've had with the D40's is the clock. They tend to lose an hour a day, sometimes more, sometimes less. Strangely enough, the clock seems to be accurate now...8 months after I bought it.

I bought a D40 last week and right out of the box kept getting card locked message. Finally after many tries got it to go away and took some pics in the house. After reviewing the pics on my PC had the card locked message again and got tired of trying to get it to go away. Ended up returning it. I think I may get the I40 as the batteries seem to last longer and it sounds like less issues. The more I read about them I think I would like to try a homebrew, at least then I could repair it myself.

I have a moultrie d40 and it does a pretty good job. The cold weather did wear the batteries out quick but I got 247 pictures in 11 days at the corn pile shown in my thread. I left it out during season and it ran from oct. 10th to dec. 18th on one set of batteries. Make sure you test out a moultrie as soon as you get it my first one had to be sent back due to a manufacturing problem.
